WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
6/9 ECW TV results from Biloxi, MS: Evan Bourne over Tony Atlas; Vladimir Kozlov over Chris Lewis & Luke Hawx in a handicap match; and the Hart Dynasty over Christian & Jack Swagger.
Great opening segment featuring a Dreamer contract signing. Christian came out to request a rematch. Swagger came out to argue that the one-day contract extension wasn’t legal and Dreamer shouldn’t have been on the PPV to begin with. Christian and Dreamer double teamed Swagger, and then Christian turned on Dreamer putting him through a table.
Backstage there was an accident. A crew member told Tiffany that a mystery man in green saved him from some lighting that was knocked over.
Presumably this will turn out to be SOS from developmental. Henry attacked Bourne after the opening match. Atlas worked better than you would think and at 55-years-old moves around better than Batista. Some
trivia: The original reason WWE brought him in was because they wanted him to travel with Henry on the road. Henry used to travel alone and ate a lot of fast food so Atlas’ main job is to keep Henry in good condition and make sure he eats right. The Kozlov squash was fun. Matt Striker claimed that Russians have been in every major wars in the last two hundred years and that most of those wars were fought in hand-to-hand combat. Kozlov now smiles and waves to the crowd. I must have missed when they turned him. The main event was very well worked. Story was Christian & Swagger not getting along as a team. The Hart’s won after Swagger snapped Christian’s neck over the top rope. They all beat Christian down after the match until Dreamer ran out with a kendo stick for the save.
WWE COO Donna Goldsmith did a presentation on Tuesday at the Noble Financial Emerging Growth Equity Conference. She said (but this is more Vince talking through her) that MMA are no threat to WWE. “The reason being is they don’t have real stars,” she said. “They don’t have a storyline. Somebody gets knocked out and they’re hurt, that may be the last you ever see from them again.” That is like the chicken in the chicken coop saying the fox isn’t a threat. She also claimed that the last five WrestleManias all drew more than 1 million buys, which technically isn’t true as the company just reported a figure that was less than 1 million buys for Wrestlemania 25. I know this is just corporate hyperbole but she comes off as really foolish and out of touch here. You can watch the presentation at http://tinyurl.com/oxyzwn.
The title matches were announced for the three-hour Raw next Monday in
Charlotte: Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian for the ECW title; Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. John Cena vs. Big Show in a fatal four-way for the now vacant WWE title; and C.M. Punk vs. Edge for the World title.
Edge has been removed from the weekend house show line ups on WWE.com.
No idea why as yet. Interesting that Jeff Hardy who injured his shoulder and broke a finger at the PPV is still listed for shows. (Thanks to Terri Bay)
Batista underwent biceps surgery on Tuesday, according to WWE.com. They said he will be out for at least four months.
Raw on Monday night did a 3.6 rating averaging 5.4 million viewers. The second hour jumped to a 3.89 from 3.3 with over a million extra viewers tuning in for the main event that never happened and the return of Triple H.
An interesting note from someone who would know is that around the same time Vickie Guerrero gave her notice was the same time that Vince decided to start calling her a pig on television.
The Gaston Gazette reports that Ric Flair will be appearing at a Republican Fundraiser in Kings Mountain, NC on Thursday. He will be the guest of former Arkansas Governor/Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
Flair was a strong supporter of Huckabee’s presidential campaign last year and made several appearances on his behalf in North and South Carolina.
Chris Jericho is filming today in Los Angeles with VH-1 for a show called 100 Most Shocking Moments In Rock.
CM Punk is booked on the heel side of things for upcoming house shows.
The main event for the 7/24 show in Salisbury, MD is John Cena & Rey Mysterio vs. Big Show & Punk.
My9 WWOR-TV in New York at http://tinyurl.com/nrrt8g ran a story on William Regal noting he starting wrestling in carnivals as a teenager and also touched upon his reptile pet collection.

Hulk Hogan via his lawyer, David Houston, released a statement today in
response to Linda Hogan claiming to have passed a drug test. The
statement reads: “Linda Hogan’s drug test is absolutely meaningless
without proper tracking and verification. If Linda Hogan wants the world
and the courts to believe that this is a valid drug test, she must prove
that it was a legally supervised medical test taken at random. The
document she distributed to the media states that she took a medical
test which means that she took a urine test with no verification of
urine’s source. Anyone can walk into a clinic and take a test, but
without supervision we only have her word to go on and that is
questionable. If Linda wanted us to believe she was clean, she should
have taken advantage of the $100,000 offer by a national radio show for
a random legally supervised drug test as opposed to the farce she has
perpetrated upon the public.” Hogan had made the offer recently on the
Tampa radio show, Bubba The Love Sponge.
Brooke Hogan is supporting Akon on his latest tour. She is part of the
line up at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi on 6/19.
