WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
6/16 ECW TV results from Roanoke, VA: DH Smith over Christian; Mark Henry over Evan Bourne; and Jack Swagger over Tommy Dreamer.
An update on WWE Hall of Famer Gerald “Jerry” Brisco. After initial fears that he suffered a stroke doctors have now ruled that out. He is scheduled for carotid endarterectomy surgery today to clear an artery blockage in his neck. He will also receive treatment for a heart ailment. The outlook is good and he is expected to make a full recovery.
Now official for The Bash next Sunday in Sacramento is Randy Orton vs.
Triple H for the WWE title; CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy for the World title; Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio for the IC title (if Mysterio loses he has to remove his mask); and The Colons vs. The Legacy for the tag titles. I assume since they are giving away Orton-Triple H on Monday they will add a stipulation to help the buyrate.
Raw on Monday night did a 3.6 rating over the three hours. For its regular two hours the show did a 3.9 averaging 5.9 million viewers which makes this the most watched Raw since the night after Wrestlemania 25.
The WWE stock has dropped nearly 10% since the Donald Trump announcement. Maxwell Murphy of Dow Jones News Plus wrote in his blog:
“For starters, public companies don’t announce mergers and acquisitions involving one of their most lucrative brands as part of staged, circus-like events. And if, heaven forbid, they do, they certainly must file with alacrity an 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission to announce and explain the pact, which WWE hasn’t done.” Murphy added that a WWE spokesperson told him that the Trump sale “will make for great television,” but danced around directly admitting the sale was a storyline. On a related note, Michael Pavone who was named this week as the new EVP of WWE Studios has netted himself over $150,000 in stock options with his promotion.
Candice Michelle has been medically cleared following her ankle injury.
She has been sidelined since February.
The Roanoke Times at http://tinyurl.com/nsdnor has a great story on Tony Atlas looking back at his life over the past few years. The story noted that Altas’ return to WWE has enabled him to purchase a house as he was pretty much broke before he signed with the company last year. They also have a neat video up as the paper spent the whole day with him doing PR around the town. WWE should air this footage on TV, Atlas seems to be having the time of his life.
Jerry Lawler gave the Cleveland Indians an expensive replica WWE title belt before Tuesday’s game. The belt goes to the Indians’ player of the game after each win, and at the end of the season, the player who has won it the most will get to keep the belt. This the same deal as we noted here last week with the New York Yankees.
Chris Jericho has a cameo on Aaron Stone on Disney XD on Monday.
TVGuide.com pulled their story about Donald Trump “acquiring” Raw as being legit… but, United Press International at http://tinyurl.com/mhuvkz are sold on the angle.
A survey on WWEClassics.com is asking subscribers which former star they would like to see featured in November. The options are Verne Gagne, Peter Maivia, Eddie Graham, and Jimmy Hart.
The Des Moines Register at http://tinyurl.com/losq7w has a Q&A with Kofi Kingston. He noted that he has a degree in communications which has come in handy: “A big part of the WWE is being able to market yourself,” he said. “You are your own product. You have to find ways to advertise yourself and make yourself pop with the crowd and basically anyone you come in contact with.”
The term “WWE” is currently No. 3 on top searches on Yahoo.com.
MVP wore a Manchester United jersey (UK soccer team) during his entrance on Raw. We’re told it was part of a deal where a kid had made the request from the Make A Wish Foundation.
WWE at http://tinyurl.com/ne6zuf sent out a release today in support of President Obama’s new United We Serve initiative. I bet it pained Joey Styles to report on this on WWE.com.
Raw TV on 9/21 was announced for Oklahoma City at the Cox Business Services Convention Center.

OTHER WRESTLING NEWS
Ken Anderson, the former Mr. Kennedy in WWE, posted a weird rant on his
website www.ken-kennedy.com with regards to his reputation for being
injury prone. At this point anything said that isn’t going to help his
career and reputation is probably better off left unsaid.
James Guttman at www.clubwwi.com has an audio interview up with Dave
Taylor who thinks he was released by WWE for arguing with management in
front of the entire locker room during a monthly talent meeting: “(WWE)
has a meeting every month with all the guys. And they said, ‘we need
people to stand out. We need people to get heat.’ Stuff like that. And I
just got a bit sick of it and I stood up and said, ‘Alright. What’s
wrong with me and Burchill?’ And they couldn’t answer me. I said, ‘We’ve
been to house shows, we get excellent reports. I’ve seen some of the
reports.’ I said, ‘I’ve been told of some of the reports. The agents
will (at the meeting) tell you.’ And they said, ‘Yeah. Eh, um, eh…’
That went on for a good ten minutes. Afterwards everyone was shaking my
hand. I said, ‘Yeah. You send me a check when they fire me.”‘
Roddy Piper will be appearing at the Castle of Knights in Chicopee, MA
on Sunday for Father’s Day. Piper is signing from 3.30-5.30pm and there
is a wrestling card at 6pm.
Dragon Gate USA announced a deal with G-Funk to air PPV on iN DEMAND
Networks and TVN in the United States, and Bell and Viewer’s Choice in
Canada. The deal starts with DGUSA’s 7/25 debut in Philadelphia at The
Arena. Press release is at www.dgusa.tv. Gabe Sapolsky said that this
deal has nothing to do with Ring of Honor parting ways with G-Funk and
that the “timing is just a coincidence.”
The Washington Post at http://tinyurl.com/n9fn7t has a story about Jimmy
Valiant’s wrestling school. The story looks at how some of his students

want to become pro wrestlers.
