STRAIGHT FROM THE MAT – GLOBAL NEWSWIRE
<> Kurt Angle was telling media tonight at the IFL championship event in Hollywood, FL, that he is in negotiations with the company to fight. Angle told FoxSports.com: A lot of fans have been talking smack and saying, ‘What’s Kurt thinking?
He can’t do this. There’s no way. He’ll get his butt kicked.’
They don’t know me. They forgot I won a gold medal in the toughest weight class (220 pounds) in the world at the time. …
People have never seen my style, which is explosive. I think a lot of heavyweights and light heavyweights won’t expect that.”

<> WWE Diva Ashley Massaro appeared as a contestant tonight on the 15th season of CBS’ reality TV show Survivor.
If you want an indication as to how well she did… she logged into her myspace account just yesterday.

<> Ricky Morton, one half of the greatest tag teams in history The Rock N’ Roll Express, has been jailed again for falling behind on child support. Morton, who turns 51 on Friday, is still more than $60,000 behind on payments to his first wife.
He was jailed for 4 months in 2005 but later released after fans and promoters in Tennessee donated money and ran benefit shows to pay his legal fees. The terms of his release stipulated that he continue working and making efforts to catch up on the payments owed but never made good on those payments.

<> Quote of the week — “Stars of the 80’s would blow the vast majority of wrestlers of today away and would definitely be HUGE stars in today’s marketplace. Race, Rhodes, DiBiase, Steamboat, Midnight Express, R ‘n R Express, etc would all be wealthy individuals if they were in their prime today and many wrestlers who do have full-time jobs in wrestling would be looking for work.” — Jim Ross has his two cents in his latest blog at www.jrsbarbq.com

<> Politico has a story up on the congressional hearings on pro wrestling at http://tinyurl.com/2p7dql

<> UGO.com has an interview up with Steve Austin at http://tinyurl.com/2dkchu talking about his movie. On acting vs.
wrestling: “I’m through with wrestling. Wrestling was one of the best jobs, the most fun I’ve ever had in my life, and I had a good time doing it. Fifteen years on the road, it’s time to do something else. I have a three-picture deal with WWE Films.
I’m trying to find the number two movie right now that we can start shooting ASAP. I’m working on certain projects myself here in Los Angeles, trying to find a script to work with other people, so that’s what I have my sights set on. That’s what I want to do with the rest of my life.”

<> Lance Storm at www.stormwrestling.com has a new commentary up talking about how Vince Russo’s plan for him to debut in WCW was to be the bastard son of Eric Bischoff ala Vince/Hornswoggle.

<> The Orlando Sentinel at http://tinyurl.com/24e6kg has a story on Rob Van Dam. He says he is burned out with wrestling right now and wants to focus on other projects: “If you’re young or really love the business and you’re really stoked to be there (WWE), then you can get through and still have a smile… If you start losing a little bit of your passion or if it’s not as fun it just becomes business for you.”

<> The Winchester Star has a letter from Ed “Brutus Beefcake” Leslie defending Nick Hogan following his accident at http://tinyurl.com/yovwy5
