WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
There is actually one more overseas show before Raw in Orlando on Monday. The Smackdown/ECW crew run tonight at Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines. We’re looking for reports from our Filipino readers, if we have any, to email@example.com. We’re also looking to hear from anyone at the FCW TV tapings in Tampa.
ECW tonight on SyFy has Nikki Bella vs. Katie Lea Burchill; Yoshitatsu vs. Shelton Benjamin; Christian vs. Vladimir Kozlov for a title shot; plus the return of Ezekiel Jackson and The Abraham Washington Show with Tommy Dreamer as the guest. Oh, and for those paying attention Tiffany has lost the ‘interim’ GM tag.
Superstars on WGN has R-Truth vs. Ricky Ortiz; Zach Ryder vs. Tyler Reks; and Chavo has to wrestle Hornswoggle on his knee’s.
Chris Mordetzky aka Chris Masters officialy signed a WWE contract this past week. Word had leaked early following a meeting with Vince McMahon in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. His return is said to be imminent.
Chris Jericho was detained for searching today at the airport in Manilla. He wrote on his Twitter: “Sitting in some sort of holding area in the Manilla airport for the past hour… The evil wrestlers are in town.” He was eventually released.
WWE sent promotional material to Montreal’s Bell Centre for the upcoming Breaking Point PPV. Every match will be a submission match. Interesting concept considering nobody other than perhaps Jericho has an established submission for a finisher. They better start getting over submissions like crazy over the next few weeks.
WWE sent out a press release last night touting 12 Rounds with John Cena for finishing in the top spot in the U.S. DVD sales chat for the week ending 7/5. We should have some accurate sales figures very soon. They picked a good week to release the DVD as the only real competition to them was Entourage – The Complete Fifth Season. The Hollywood reporter ran a story mocking them for the press release saying 12 Rounds is a horrible movie and WWE won by “default.”
Warehouse 13, which aired in ECW’s usual spot on SyFy on Tuesday did a
2.5 rating. That is just over double what ECW usually does. Don’t expect a press release about that one.
WWE pulled Ricky Steamboat out of his induction into the Dan Gable Wrestling Institute Hall of Fame. He was due to be inducted this weekend in Iowa.
The video game section of ESPN.com at http://tinyurl.com/nauuqa has an interview with John Cena. When asked about turning heel, he said:
“That’s the thing, I’m one of those guys who on any given day can be booed out of any building. I’m the only guy who is neither a good guy or a bad guy. That’s because I’m genuinely myself. Certainly, guys in our industry try to sway the audience one way or the other, but like I said, I go out there and I’m me. I have certain things that I stand for, certain things that I believe in, and if you don’t like it and you tell me to go to hell, I think that’s your God-given right as a fan. It’s one of those deals where I’m that one guy who is outside of that realm of good guy, bad guy. I’m just me, and it elicits a response both positive and negative.”
Silvervision released the DVD cover of the Rise & Fall of WCW DVD.
Featured is Eric Bischoff, Bill Goldberg, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes are hidden away in there too.
The DVD is due out in October.
Smackdown last Friday did a 1.6 rating.

Shattersphere’s Loaded track will be the official theme music for Night Of Champions.
The London Times at http://tinyurl.com/mza2sh has a story on Major Sean Birchall, brother of Paul, who was killed by an IED in Afghanistan. Paul is quoted as saying: “Sean was supportive, proud, smart, tough, so tough, loyal, funny, handsome, dashing, daring, so brave… He was my hero and he was everyone’s hero.”
TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS
TNA are back on the road this weekend for a house show run which starts tonight in Jamestown, NY. Main event is Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles. They cross the line to Ontario on Friday, then run Hamburg, NY on Saturday and Syracuse on Sunday. We’re looking for reports to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Impact tonight on Spike following UFC’s Greatest Fights has Homicide vs.
Doug Williams in Feast or Fired ladder match; Kevin Nash & Matt Morgan vs. AJ Styles & Daniels; plus Mike Tenay attempts to interview Suicide and an interesting turn of events concerning the Knockouts title. For those who Tivo the show on Dish Network it’s now TNA Impact on the schedule so you have to change your settings or it won’t record.
www.mondaynightmayhem.com has new interviews up with Lex Luger, Eric
Young and Brother Devon, who no-sold the hosts when they asked about Taz
coming in: “Well, let me ask you this… I’m still a little
stunned…You say Taz is coming to TNA? I’m still a little taken a back
by that one. I thought he was still in the WWE.” Such a worker. On ever
going back to the WWE, he said: “I’m going to put old rumors to rest,
and I want people to understand this. TNA has been nothing but good to
us. TNA has allowed us to be still the tag team that we are, they have
not held us back. They have done the right thing. We’ve had some
creative control, and when we need to be pulled back, they pull us back.
But there is one thing we love to do… we love to come to work. And we
still enjoy doing what we’re doing. So as far as I’m concerned, and I
want people to really understand this and realize, we’re not screwing
over TNA, we’re very happy here, we’re going to continue to be happy
here. I know a lot of people thought we were going to go to WWE but
right now, I don’t think their product is where we need to be right now.
They’re going in a different direction than where we want to be.”
TNA announced its PPV schedule for the rest of 2009. With the exception
of Bound For Glory in Irvine, CA on 10/18; Hard Justice, No Surrender,
Turning Point and Final Resolution will all take place at Universal
Studios in Orlando.
Toronto native Taylor Wilde was a guest yesterday on TSN’s Off the
Record. She talked about WWE firing her and going back to college and
working part time in a tanning salon. She had just about given up on
wrestling but sent a tape to TNA and got a job. She said her mom didn’t
let her watch wrestling as a child but now she is her biggest fan.
While he doesn’t usually work house shows, Mick Foley is listed for the
shows next month in Texas.
Jim Cornette’s latest audio show is up at
www.WhosSlammingWho.podomatic.com. This week he announces the first
members of the “Jim Cornette Kiss My Ass Club” and discusses the recent
injury to Edge and Roddy Piper’s DUI charge.

I just would like to mention I was at the Yankee game on Sunday 7-5-09
and I was walking out of the bathroom to go back to my seat and as I was
walking I slowly passed a white male about 6’3″, 250lbs and a slight
mohawk. I looked right at him and realized exactly who it was. Bubba
Dudley! I turned back around quickly and approached him. We chatted for
a bit, took a pic together and said good bye. I’m the only 1 that
probably noticed him that quickly or at all. I did ask him if he liked
TNA or WWE better but he didn’t comment. It’s ok but at least he stopped
I wanted to let you know I posted up the video from last week’s Melina
interview at http://www.b95forlife.com/pages/Salas.html
It’s not really too relevant or timely anymore, but I thought at least
you might wanna check it out in your free time. A bunch of people were
hitting me about the John Morrison / cheese-grating video, too. So I had
to add that to the page too, ha! Keep doing what you’re doing!
We just canned a great one hour plus interview with former WWE and ECW
star Elijah Burke. He speaks about his WWE release, where you might find
him next, going back to school and dinner with a TNA main eventer and

Kayfabe Commentaries newest release might be their best to date. The
Ringside series debuted a few months ago with guest Big Van Vader/Leon
White. But the next guests take it to a level that a shoot style
interview rarely gets to. On this edition Sean Oliver sits down with
Bill Eadie & Barry Darsow who my generation knew as Ax & Smash the tag
team called Demolition. Before they begin viewing the matches Oliver
somehow talked the duo into putting on the legendary makeup in front of
the cameras. During this time they discuss the creation of the
characters, leaving former characters behind (Eadie worked as Masked
Superstar, Darsow as Krusher Krushev), working with Hall of Fame manager
Mr. Fuji plus their family life on and off the road. Here are the
matches Demolition talks about:
Demolition vs. Strike Force (Tito Santana/Rick Martel) March 27, 1988
Atlantic City, NJ; WrestleMania IV
Demolition vs. British Bulldogs, July 31, 1988 Wrestlefest, Milwaukee
County Stadium Demolition vs. Hart Foundation, August 29, 1988
Summerslam, Madison Square Garden
Demolition in the January 15, 1989 Royal Rumble, the Summit, Houston, TX
(they drew #1 & 2 respectively)
Demolition vs. Powers of Pain (Warlord/Barbarian), February 3, 1989, the
Main Event, Bradley Center, Milwaukee, WI (night the Mega Powers
Demolition vs. Brain Busters (Tully Blanchard/Arn Anderson) October 2,
1989, Wheeling, WV Superstars taping
Demolition vs. Andre the Giant/Giant Baba, April 13, 1990, US/Japan
Wrestling Summit, Tokyo Egg Dome
In the pre-viewing dicussion mentioned above Oliver brings up the
obvious question about comparisons to the legendary Road Warriors and I
was surprised at the answer given by Eadie & Darsow. Like with the Vader
DVD, Oliver gets his interview subjects to open up in areas you might
not expect to hear and stories which will have you falling over
laughing. The only flaw as mentioned in the Vader review is you aren’t
watching the matches, you’re watching people talk about the match. For a
while it works but then again it also doesn’t help. Log onto
www.kayfabecommentaries.com for their next releases which include
