WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

7/26 Night Of Champions PPV results from Philadelphia, PA: Chris Jericho & Big Show over The Legacy to retain the tag titles; Christian over Tommy Dreamer to win the ECW title; Kofi Kingston retained the US title in a six-way over Carlito, Primo (replacing Big Show), MVP, The Miz and Jack Swagger; Michelle McCool over Melina to retain the Women’s title; Randy Orton retained the WWE title over Triple H and John Cena in a three-way; Mickie James over Maryse to win the Divas title; Rey Mysterio over Dolph Ziggler to retain the IC title; and Jeff Hardy over CM Punk to win the world title. Pre-show dark match was Cryme Time over The Hart Dynasty.

Rob McNicol has a PPV review at http://tinyurl.com/mcyn29. I think Jim Ross had line of the night for “Hardy knows how to attack a joint… the high-risk junkie.”

Raw is live tonight from the Verizon Center in Washington, DC with Shaquille O’Neal as guest host. Apparently he wanted the gig to promote his upcoming reality show “Shaq versus…” that has him competing against other atheletes from other sports, including Micheal Phelps.
We’ve also had emails from readers in DC who think that Shaq will get booed out of the building tonight due to the Cleveland Cavaliers rivaling the Washington Wizards. No matches announced at press time but the odds are against Shaq being involved in anything physical. Batista is likely on the show in some capacity.

The Smackdown/ECW tapings are Tuesday at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, MD. We’re looking for reader reports to [email protected].

Vince McMahon was said to be really unhappy with certain aspects of the PPV, which was more his frustration with the lack of reaction from the live crowd. During the opening match he blew a gasket backstage and smashed his headset on the floor in front of the entire crew.

Jeff Hardy looks to be staying for at least SummerSlam. He isn’t listed for any house shows that John Laurinaitis has put together for August, but he went over Punk last night for the title and was advertised on the promotional video for the PPV.

We understand Maryse is undergoing surgery tomorrow in Birmingham, AL.
No word yet on the type of surgery or how long she will be out. She dropped the Divas title to Mickie James last night at the PPV.

If Shawn Michaels is coming back for Summerslam one would assume his return to TV is imminent.

There was a technical issue with the WWE.com webcast of Night of Champions. They missed the opening match and the broadcast didn’t kick in until Punk’s promo. They were doing a deal where if you ordered the PPV through the WWE website you got a free DVD. There were also issues with blank screens for Time Warner Cable subscribers.

Former developmental wrestler Damien Dothard’s cause of death was a brain aneuryism, according to Julie Patterson, who dated him on and off for nine years. He died at his home in Smyrna, GA last week and was working as a personal trainer and had not wrestled since 2006. He was 34 and is survived by his two young sons. The funeral will take place at 2pm on Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Roopville, GA. (Thanks to Irv Muchnick at http://muchnick.net)

John Morrison and The Miz are back together (kind of) on WWE.com with their Dirt Sheet web show pushing Castrol GTX.

Ric Flair and his son Reid were partying with several women last night at the Kid Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Charlotte.

Triple H has been telling people that there are currently no plans to bring Flair back to TV. Flair finished up his commitments with Ring of Honor this past weekend with an autograph signing in Toronto. His agent, Elaine Gillespie, is still sending out letters to promoters they have worked with in the past looking for work. Flair is also looking at doing a second autobiography independently from WWE as he was unhappy with  To Be The Man which was written by Keith Elliot Greenburg a few years ago.

It appears they are building towards a Mickie James-Michelle McCool title vs. title Divas match at SummerSlam.

Batista was spotted at the Washington Nationals-San Diego Padres game on Saturday night. There is a blurb at http://tinyurl.com/mu9psj including a photo of Batista with his lady, who has a hell of a bicep, and their son.

THQ sent out a press release today announcing that they won their binding arbitration with JAKKS Pacific. The arbitrator established a lower return payment rate to JAKKS for WWE video games sold under a license granted by WWE to THQ/JAKKS. This means the company expects to report a one-time benefit of $23 million during its 2010 second quarter based on that ruling.

Triple H turns 40 today. Former WWE wrestler Shannon Moore turns 30, and today also marks the eight anniversary of the death of Rhonda “Berta Faye” Singh.

They also announced that their HDNet TV show is moving to Monday nights from 8/17. The show will air an hour before Raw at 8pm ET. There was fear I’d suffered some serious damage but after a trip to the hospital everything came back ok, but they said wrestling again the next night would be seriously dangerous since I could barely move my neck to protect myself.”

Last night, I went to the Kid Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Charlotte.
My dad does security work for the amphitheatre, so my sister and I went by the VIP Club to see if my dad was working there. We saw Ric Flair walk into the VIP Club and head to the bar. A few minutes later, we saw Reid and a burnette headed to the VIP Club. After the concert, we went to tell my dad bye and Ric and Reid were back (or still) at the VIP Club. Just thought you’d like to know.
