I have an interview with The Hart Dynasty online at http://tinyurl.com/m6fffu.
In a strange story, Bob Barker’s appearance on Raw led to rumors of his demise. He topped Twitter trending topics last night and there were millions of Internet searches of his name, which, given his age, usually means the worst. 1010 News in New York City even ran a story reporting that Barker was alive and well. Story is at http://tinyurl.com/n4ypzw.
There was a backstage altercation between Big Show and Great Khali over the weekend in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Show was apparently upset over something that was messed up in their match. The version we heard is that words were exchanged, they locked up, and then either Show fell over a bag and Khali took him down, or Khali just took him down. Before the situation could escalate several guys, including The Undertaker, jumped in and pulled them apart. No blows were landed. Presumably they worked out their differences although they were kept apart for the remainder of the tour.
Batista is advertised to make a “career-altering announcement” next week at Raw in Toronto when Trish Stratus will be guest host.
Superstars did a 0.8 rating for last week’s show on WGN.
Another upcoming DVD release we have just learned about is a 3-disc History of the World Heavyweight Championship. How are they going to get around the Benoit issue with this one?
TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS
GlobalVisas.com ran a story on Angel Williams’ visa issues. They pretty much summed up her situation saying she had been working without a US visa for two years, ever since her contract with WWE ended, and that neither she nor her employer (TNA) applied for a new one: “TNA president Dixie Carter was recently alerted to the problem and potential legal ramifications of employing illegal workers. Williams’ contract has been promptly terminated. If investigations ensue, she could be banned from entering the US for ten years and forced to pay back any salary she earned while working without a visa.” This whole mess just boggles the mind.
Impact, despite being a great show last Thursday, drew a 0.95 rating on Spike, making it the lowest rated Impact of 2009. Go figure.
The Miami Herald at http://tinyurl.com/ngolqp has a story on Kip James.
A great look at his life from growing up in Florida wanting to be a cowboy to his WWE career and various gimmicks over the years. No real mention of TNA.
Jeremy Borash at http://tinyurl.com/l6gknh talks to media in Australia about being involved in the creative process as well as the prospect of running Impact live every Thursday from different venues around the country. He said when they are ready to do it they probably would.
Mick Foley was spotted yesterday at the Yankees-Rays game at Yankee Stadium. He was shown on the big screen during the fifth inning with his wife and kids.
OTHER WRESTLING NEWS
Today marks the ten year anniversary of the death of Brian Hildebrand aka Mark Curtis who died of stomach cancer at age 37. He was best known for his run as a referee with WCW in the 90s. During his time in WCW, he earned the nickname The Shooter after a fan attempted to interfere during a live television match. As the invading fan slid under the bottom rope to enter the ring, Hildebrand, who happened to have glanced over just as the man jumped the guard rail, dropped to the mat, placed the man in a guillotine choke, and held him there until WCW security could remove him. During the final stage of his disease in 1999, a benefit was held in his hometown of Rostraver Township, PA that featured several major stars at the time including Mick Foley, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Shane Douglas, Bruno Sammartino, Dominic DeNucci, Terry Taylor, D’Lo Brown, Al Snow, Billy Kidman, Chris Candido, and many others.
