WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
9/15 ECW TV results from Hamilton, Ontario: William Regal over Hurricane; Yoshi Tatsu over Zack Ryder; and Zack Ryder won a Battle Royal for an ECW title shot.
Linda McMahon announced today she is stepping down as WWE CEO to seek the Republican nomination for the US Senate seat in Connecticut, currently held by Democrat Christopher Dodd. Vince McMahon will assume her duties as well as his position as WWE Chairman. The story has already received a ton of media coverage including CNN, Fox News, Reuters, The Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, and the New York and Los Angeles Times. At one point today she was the top search on Yahoo and second on Google. Linda said in a statement: “I have spent the past 30 years growing what began as a 13-employee small business into a publicly traded, global entertainment company that now provides over 500 jobs here in Connecticut. I understand what it takes to balance a budget, create jobs and grow the economy. Washington is out of control, and sadly, Sen. Chris Dodd has lost his way and our trust. I can’t sit by on the sidelines anymore knowing that I have both the experience and the strength to stand up to special interests and bring badly needed change to Washington.” A campaign website has launched at www.linda2010.com.
Linda appeared on MSNBC this morning to announce her nomination. She
said: “WWE is an entertainment company with PG programming… But the issues that are facing us today are not what takes place in the WWE’s ring. It’s about debt. It’s about getting our folks back to work. And that’s what I’m going to focus on here in Connecticut.”
Triple H will accompany Floyd Mayweather to the ring Saturday night for his fight against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“Triple H is one of the greatest guys in the world and represents a whole universe of WWE fans that appreciate what he does,” said Mayweather in a press release. “He and his stature are huge and I can’t think of a better person to escort me to the ring for my return to boxing.” Triple H was quoted as saying: “It is an honor to walk the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world back into the ring. Floyd ‘Money’
Mayweather has shown WWE tremendous support and it is my pleasure to return the favor this Saturday by standing at his side as he defeats Marquez in what I am sure will be boxing’s fight of the year.”
FanHouse.com has a story on Mayweather where he claims he has been talking to Vince McMahon about joining WWE full-time. He was quoted as
saying: “I’m not calling anyone out, so I’m not here to talk about Manny Pacquaio. Right now, I’m looking at the WWE. I talked with the (Vince) McMahon family and they’re happy with the idea. So I may move there full-time. I don’t know.” Story is at http://tinyurl.com/oj6mdr.
Because they haven’t found anyone to replace Lilian Garcia the current plan is for Howard Finkel to at least fill in until they find a suitable replacement ring announcer for Raw. Vince wants someone who can sing as well as announce, just like Lilian. The idea of doing an American Idol-style reality show to find a new announcer is still being talked about.
Raw on Monday night scored a 3.4 rating (lowest since May), down from last week’s 3.8. The drop was related to heavy competition from football with the New England-Buffalo game and San Diego-Oakland game doing a monster 10.3 rating and 8.9 rating respectfully.
Jerry Lawler was on MyFox Memphis this morning talking about his mayoral campaign. Interview footage at http://tinyurl.com/onhvpn.
Mexican Luchadore Aaron Rodriquez (Espiral/Sicodelico, Jr.) was also released from developmental.
Michelle McCool is recovering from food poisoning but still worked the TV taping last night in Hamilton.
Kelly Kelly is rehabbing her injured knee and at this point won’t require any surgery.
The Great Khali has been written out of storylines as he is undergoing knee surgery soon.
Jeff Hardy has apparently deleted his Twitter and Myspace pages due to the media attention following his arrest.
Pierre Carl Ouellet is mad with WWE because they had one of his Youtube video’s deleted. It was match with Kevin Nash from an indie show earlier this year. WWE claimed copyright infringement, even though they don’t own the copyright.
The September 29 Decade of Smackdown special in Boston will feature an eight man tag with Undertaker, John Cena & DX vs. CM Punk, Randy Orton & The Legacy.
Muscle & Fitness at http://tinyurl.com/qtfke7 has posted excerpts from their interview with Steve Austin in the November issue of the magazine.

Dixie Carter is interviewed at http://tinyurl.com/qzja33 talking about
TNA’s reach in India. She noted that 15 percent of their revenue now
comes from outside the US with the UK, Australia and India their biggest
international markets. She also claims Impact regularly beats ECW
ratings in the US and that they are now competing with Smackdown.
Actually, Impact has only drawn a higher rating than ECW during 8 out of
the last 35 weeks, and they are more than one million viewers behind
Smackdown. On the new video game that Midway had developed before they
filed bankruptcy, she said: “We are currently evaluating our options for
our next video game partner due to the Warner acquisition of Midway and
expect to make an announcement soon.”

Combat Zone Wrestling released a statement to us today followng the
death of Ohio-based indy wrestler Matt Lowry after attending one of
their Monday night training sessions in Philadelphia: Matt Lowry had no
position with Combat Zone Wrestling LLC, nor was he a student. He was
in town to work for another promotion and came to the Arena in South
Philadelphia where our performers gather to work out. He joined in some
warm up activities, including running, squats and push-ups. After
which, he sat in a chair and said something like ‘I feel dizzy.’ He fell
over and 911 was called immediately. A local fire company responded and
they called for an ambulance. CZW owner David Markland and other
wrestlers followed the ambulance to the hospital. CZW contacted Lowry’s
father and had wrestlers stay at the hospital until he arrived from
Ohio. We were told Lowry died of a brain hemorrhage (sic) and that there
was no evidence of acute head trauma or that his work out caused his
death. CZW wishes to extend its condolences to Matt’s family and hopes
that our fans will keep them in their thoughts and prayers. We at Combat
Zone Wrestling LLC, remind fans that pro wrestling is a dangerous
activity; however we strive to protect the safety of our students and
performers through proper training and discourage anyone from attempting
to imitate our performers.
