WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

9/28 Raw TV results from Albany, NY: Big Show & Chris Jericho over Mark Henry & MVP; Mickie James over Rosa Mendes; Jack Swagger over Evan Bourne; Chris Masters & Chavo Guerrero over Santino Marella & Hornswoggle; and John Cena vs. Chris Jericho, Big Show & Randy Orton didn’t have an official finish. Dark match was Primo over Eric Escobar.

The Smackdown tenth anniversary special is taped this evening at the Boston Garden. The advertised main event is Triple H, Shawn Michaels, John Cena & The Undertaker vs. CM Punk, Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase Jr. Vickie Guerrero will make a live appearance doing some type of tribute to Eddie, and they have footage in the can taped at The Rock’s house this past week. Also, they called The Iron Sheik and he flew in from Toronto last night. They didn’t tell him what his role would be.

Tonight’s ECW TV main event was announced as a rematch of last week’s main event, Christian vs. Zach Zyder, but something else is planned.

Jim Ross, Paul Heyman, Terry Funk, Scott Hudson, Chris Cruise, and Larry Zbyszko talk the art of announcing in a great article at http://tinyurl.com/ye5dxgf. Ross noted on game night you won’t find him out in strip bars with the rest of the boys, well, actually he didn’t say that, but you know what I mean. He said: “I will generally spend several hours the week of the PPV from Wednesday through Saturday preparing and then I lay low the night before the event reading over my notes and of various ways to describe the superstars.” He also talked about how TV has changed from calling play-by-play to storytelling:
“From a broadcaster’s perspective, I liked the original play-by-play presentation a great deal but overall the business has improved immensely when one looks at the income the wrestlers are able to earn, the production improvements the TV folks have brought to the table and the global exposure of the product. It’s all about the money and there is more money to be made by more people within the industry than ever before.”

Smackdown last Friday night did a 1.9 rating.

In case you missed it, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger hosts Raw next Monday in Wilkes-Barre. He will be pushing his foundation.

Some non-wrestling notes on Smackdown ring announcer Lauren Mayhew. She is currently working on a music album which is a collaboration with Marcos Curiel, the famed guitarist of P.O.D. and the new group Daylight Division (that features members of Papa Roach and Chevelle). She also has a movie coming out November 1 called Frat Party, rated-R so it won’t be co-promoted through WWE for obvious reasons.

Linda McMahon has set up a plush campaign office in the West Hartford Center. No expense spared here of course.

Mickie James vs. Alicia Fox for Divas title was added to Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV in New Jersey.

Jeff Hardy has his first court hearing later this week to be arraigned on the drugs charges he was recently busted for in North Carolina.

Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. and wife Sarah Michelle Gellar had a baby girl, Charlotte Grace Prinze, Saturday in Los Angeles. The couple have been married since 2002.

Lilian Garcia posted her first wedding picture at http://twitpic.com/jjwyq.

Howard Finkel wrote on his Twitter page last night: “Good luck to Justin Roberts as Raw ring announcer. And to those who wanted me back on Raw, thanks for your kind words and support!”

The Trentonian at http://tinyurl.com/yak38mx has a story on Tommy Dreamer. He talks about having his retirement planned, but not scheduled.

The Miz and John Morrison appear tonight on So You Think You’re Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

years ago and how it’s changed for the better or, as some see it, for
the worse.” His blog is titled, The World According To Dutch.

Danny Bonaduce is claiming he turned down doing Hulk Hogan‘s Australian

circumstances beyond our control” that was planned for November in
Philly.

Trish Stratus appears on the season premiere of Family Biz at 7:30pm on

Shane Carwin on his upcoming fight with Brock Lesnar at UFC 106 via
Heavy.com: “This is the first time that I am getting ready for a fight
with a little hate for my opponent. He continues to fuel the fire with
his ignorant comments about my opponents and my record. Next thing you
know, he will tell you his high school was bigger then mine and
therefore that’ll be the deciding factor. I am ready. I wish I could
kick his ass tomorrow… We have been doing a “bring your child to the
gym” day so we can deal with temper tantrums and irrational thoughts…
Brock is not good with math. Thankfully, the UFC and WWE have paid him
enough money to get a math tutor. I know I wasn’t walked through the
front door of the UFC with people holding the door for me. I wasn’t fed
fights that sell pay-per-views. I was matched up by promoters and took
whatever they put in front of me… I have fought three times as many
people then Brock has. If he wants to disrespect the opponents I have
fought, that is his choice. I say any man or woman that enters that cage
to face an opponent is worthy of my respect. They have trained hard, and
to disrespect MMA fighters is disrespecting the sport of MMA. What I can
tell you is, talent-wise I respect Brock, but he needs a filter put on
his words.”
