ROH Results and Analysis (09/23/15)

This week, Ring of Honor gave us the treat of the stars of New Japan Pro Wrestling competing alongside and against the ROH mainstays.

We got to see IWGP Champion Okada team up with Roppongi Vice to go against IWGP IC Champion Goto and The Briscoes in the main event.

Anytime NJPW invades ROH, it’s always a good show.

Best Moment

Michael Elgin

Michael Elgin vs Silas Young

Before G1 this year, I was not a big Michael Elgin fan. I have been converted.

This man was the best part of G1 in my mind (and in a lot of other’s, as well), and since the tournament finished, I have found a new appreciation for his style and talent. His match against Silas Young tonight was typical Elgin, but that’s a good thing.

Young isn’t one of my favorites, so seeing Elgin beat him was pretty sweet. Both men harken back to that old school, no flash style, and they worked well together. But, Elgin is just so strong and so smooth with that strength. He is a joy to watch.

Standout Star

NJPW

One of the main reasons I really like Ring of Honor is their working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

For those in the States that don’t have access to NJPW’s product (or who don’t want to pay 999 yen per month for NJPW World), ROH is the only place where they can see the Japanese stars. This week was one of the weeks where the NJPW/ROH partnership gave us a great main event.

They don’t get much better than the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada, and the IWGP Intercontinental Champion Hirooki Goto isn’t far behind. Okada is so good in the ring; he’s smooth as silk and a pure joy to watch. Goto, while not as charismatic as Okada, is just a hard hitting fighter who takes no prisoners.

Even if you don’t like ROH, watch whenever New Japan shows up. It’s always more than worth it.

Who Fell Short

ACH ROH

ACH vs Caprice Coleman

This match just did nothing for me.

It was filler between a good opening match and a stellar main event.

There was really nothing wrong with the match, but it just didn’t live up to the rest of the show.
