THE GAGNE – MCMAHON MEETINGS REVEALED IN NEW DVD

The latest edition of the critically acclaimed series “Guest Booker” uncovers the opening salvo fired in the McMahon/territory wars. Greg Gagne sat down with the Kayfabe Commentaries crew and came clean about the ENTIRE story surrounding McMahon’s attempt to buy the AWA, their business dealings, how it fell apart, and the decision to attack. In 1984, Verne Gagne assembled all of the major promoters in the US to form an alliance under the umbrella “Pro Wrestling USA.” This cooperative was an attempt to run directly at McMahon’s national expansion. It’s an era that Kayfabe Commentaries co-owner Sean Oliver says is rarely cited in wrestling history.

“The ultimate and abominable failure of this effort has sort of erased it from wrestling lore. But that’s unfortunate because it’s a real soap opera with a compelling cast of characters,” Oliver said. “Putting pro wrestling’s power barons of yesteryear in one company, giving them equal power, and expecting anything less than an explosive cocktail of backstabbing, thievery, and selfishness would be a vacation from reality.”

After a thorough discussion of the McMahon/AWA dealings, Pro Wrestling USA attempt, and the AWA booking style, Gagne is presented with the opportunity to do it right, via the “Guest Booker” booking exercise.
