The Beast, Fighting Biggest Battle Of His Life

The Beast, Fighting The Biggest Battle Of His Life, Outside Of The Ring

Yvon Cormier, it may not be a household name in most parts of Canada, but in The Maritimes he is the most beloved folk hero of our time. Cormier, better known as The Beast first appeared on the wrestling scene in 1963 and captured the hearts of young and old with his shear brute strength and raw power. As a child I fondly remember my grand-father’s stories of his feats of strength, and things he used to do to amaze on-lookers. We lived some 3 hours from Memramcook NB, where Yvon Cormier lived, but he talked about him like he lived down the road, as do most Maritimers when they tell you their favourite stories about him.

No Way Out: Preview & Predictions!

The Kingfish Arnie Katz gets you ready for WWE’s February pay per view event!.

On the expressway that runs from Royal Rumble to WrestleMania, No Way Out has often been little more than a speed bump. The storylines are set up in time for the Rumble and then the plots play out as planned during the two months until WWE’s premier event of the year brings things to a series of exciting climaxes.

WWE has, in recent years, turned to the Elimination Chamber as a way to make No Way Out seem more meaningful. They’re going with the double main event format in which two Elimination Chamber contests decide the World Heavyweight and WWE Championships.

Shannon: My No Way Out Predictions

My No Way Out Predictions

Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, breaks out the crystal ball, lucky coin and tea leaves to try and predict the matches and future storylines of this lead-in to WrestleMania.

Normally, I’d skip No Way Out. I think the WWE should take a PPV Break between Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. This year, Dish Network put together a package deal where the consumer could get all three PPVs for a discounted package price. I decided to opt in for the special. Since I’m going to have it coming into the house, I will be watching it, muted, as I work from home. I expect some serious swerves in this one to set up the biggest and best show of the year…Wrestlemania. Let’s take a look at all the craziness in this one. This should be rather fun.

Katz Files: February TNA Report Card!

The Katz Files – Arnie Katz

The February TNA Report Card

The Kingfish Arnie Katz files his February report card for the good folks at TNA.

About the Report Cards

Each month, I issue a report card for TNA. I examine and grade the promotion in all the vital areas. I discuss strengths and weaknesses and chart the ups and downs. The grades in parentheses are for the previous report card. The grades in parentheses represent the previous report card.

Against All Odds has trudged into pro wrestling history, albeit it as a very minor footnote, so it’s time to evaluate the Total Non-stop Action promotion.

Shannon: The (2/10) ECW Extreme Examination

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon

The (2/10) ECW Extreme Exam for

Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, looks at an exciting edition of ECW. One of the most anticipated returns in WWE history kicked off the show. Plus, the final trainee from the legendary Hart Dungeon came to ECW with the love of his life at his side.

ECW started with a look at the issues between Finlay and Jack Swagger. Hornswoggle had scarfed Jack’s ECW title belt. When Jack shoved the diminutive dynamo, his dad, Finlay, snapped. Finlay took the fight to Jack, the following week. Finlay ended Jack’s unbeaten streak, thanks to help from Hornswoggle and an over-sized shillelagh.

Jack Swagger strolled out to the ring. Jack did his little bounce thing, which caused him to drop the championship belt from his waist. Jack was missing his Lance Von Erich-like grin. Jack started to speak but the crowd booed him. Jack whined about being victimized and embarrassed. Jack started to go off on Teddy Long about having to face Finlay at No Way Out. Jack felt it was unfair that he had to fight Finlay. Jack said he would take out Finlay and the “real problem”. Jack called out Hornswoggle. Instead of the midget, Jack got one heck of a surprise…Christian!
