WSU 4/10 “3rd Annual Women’s J-Cup Tournament Results”WSU & NWS returned on 4/10 to co-present the third annual Women’s J-Cup tournament. This was WSU’s first show since the much talked about “2nd Anniversary Show”. This was the first WSU show in nearly a years time that didn’t feature Angel Orsini as WSU Champion. With Mercedes Martinez winning the championship in a grueling bullrope match on 3/7, this would be the first show Martinez would defend her newly won WSU championship.

New Characters for 21st Century Wrestling!
The Kingfish Arnie Katz offers some ideas for characters more in keeping with today than goose-stepping Nazis and Fu Manchu-like villains.

Characters are an important element of every wrestling promotion. Colorful and entertaining characters are the hallmark of a successful wrestling promotion. The day is long past when two anonymous boots-and-trucks guys can draw big crowds. Fans want to feel involved with the combatants and, in pro wrestling. That means dynamic personalities.

A vivid and intriguing characterization can spell the difference between success and failure. Look at all the guys who were flops with one character and main eventers with another. Kevin Nash, Steve Austin and Undertaker probably had the same level of wrestling school before they hit on winning characters, but they didn’t climb to the top of the card until they assumed a character that fans loved and/or hated.

My 2009 WWE Draft Predictions
Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, takes on the daunting task of trying to sort out the insanity that is the 2009 WWE Draft.

While talking with my good friend, Arnie Katz, about this column, we both agreed that this would be a challenge to predict. There are so many variables in all this that I may be biting off a bit more than I can chew with this one. However, I will push on and do my best to try and sort out the various moves and switches. I will look at each Brand, individually, focusing on who they are getting. I’ll wrap things up with a call sheet of the changes. (Rolls up sleeves, opens a fresh diet soda, and dives in).
