Wrestler of the Week: Mickie James

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
OWW Wrestler of the Week: Mickie James
Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, profiles the four-time Women’s champion.

There have been many great Divas in the WWE. One of the most popular has been and continues to be, Mickie James. Mickie is a 4-time Women’s champion that has helped to build the foundation of the current Diva roster. On Raw, Mickie surprised the crowd and the critics with a surprise win over Divas champ, Maryse. Mickie James is this week’s OWW Wrestler of the Week.

Pre-Diva Days

Mickie Laree James was born on August 31, 1979 in Montpelier, Virginia. Despite the same name, she is not directly related to the James/Armstrong wrestling family. Mickie started out as a typical farm girl, riding horses and working with her father and sister, Latoya. She also watched a lot of professional wrestling with her father. Virginia was, at the time, one of the biggest hot beds of wrestling action. James also spent some time working as a dancer, before making her career choice of pro wrestling.

Spring TNA Knockout Report

The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
Spring TNA Knockout Report
The Kingfish Arnie Katz evaluates the current strengths and weaknesses of the individual performers of TNA’s Knockout Division

TNA is coming up to the Sacrifice, the pay per view that will probably determine the company’s direction for the next few months. That includes the Knockout Division, which has again gotten a strong push.

Here’s this quarter’s evaluation:

Wrestling. Awesome Kong was working through some painful physical problems, chiefly a bad back, at the time of the last quarterly Knockout Report. Either she has rehabbed it to some extent or has learned to live with the pain, because she is wrestling much stronger once more. Kong isn’t the one for flying moves, but her overall ring work is at the top of the Knockout Divisio0n. (B+)

As I See It: 16 Years at ECW Arena

AS I SEE IT
Bob Magee
Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets
PWBTS.com

Since so many of you seem to like remembering the real ECW days…remember now it’s been 16 years since that building opened, and read the column below.

This past Saturday, the ECW Arena was used for a wrestling doubleheader, with an afternoon MBA benefit show, then later the monthly CZW show. Ironically enough, CZW is approaching the length of time using the Arena that ECW was actually in the building…but it’ll always be the ECW Arena to a generation of us.

Enjoy…
