New England Championship Wrestling presented it’s 6th Annual IRON 8 Championship Tournament, Saturday night, May 30th at the National Guard Armory in Quincy, MA. A large and enthusiastic crowd witnessed what will go down as one of the greatest events in NECW history.

Christian faced off against a member of the Hart Dynasty, Tyson Kidd. Mark Henry got his rematch against Evan Bourne. Plus, Tommy Dreamer made what may have been his final ECW TV appearance. Time to get Extreme!

The crowd cranked up the volume, big time, as Evan Bourne made his entrance. This week’s show was live from Memphis, TN. Tony Atlas ushered his charge, Mark Henry, to the ring for this battle. Mark scowled all the way to the ring.

A Note from the Kingfish
Trying new things is part of the fun of doing a column like that. As an experiment, I am overhauling the format of the Notebooks to highlight the key points instead of embedding them in a recap.

There are lots of recaps, including one right here on OWW by Jay Shannon, so no one who wants one will go without,. On the other hand, there’s very little intelligent analysis; that’s the aspect I’ll stress in the Notebook series.

<Ultimate Sacrifice Fall-out
YNA trumpeted Sacrifice, especially the “Ultimate Sacrifice” main event, as something that would “change the landscape” of TNA.” You can’t have a wrestling promotion without hyperbole, but it made me wonder how the May pay per view could alter the promotion.

As was obvious on the 5/28 iMPACT, TNA is doing a very smart thing by utilizing the outcome of the Ultimate Sacrifice four-way to restructure ad revive some elements of the show.

Our resident philosopher profiles “The Phenomenal One”, A.J. Styles. Styles has been a cornerstone of TNA for many years.

A.J. Styles, the current Legends champion, has been one of the key players in TNA, since day one. He’s held every possible title in the company. He’s been involved with top storylines, as both a face and a heel. His match against (Christopher) Daniels on the most recent edition of !mpact was one of the best in his career. Winning that match elevated Styles into the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary. It also garnered him the OWW Wrestler of the Week award.
