My Weekly TNA Notebook

The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
My iMPACT (5/28) Notebook
The Kingfish Arnie Katz highlights the major developments and discusses what they mean.

”King of the Mountain”
Slammiversary’s double main event is shaping up as a tremendously pair of outstanding matches with great interest for fans. Credit good booking for both and some very exciting qualifying matches for the TNA World Championship “King of the Mountain.”

Despite the probably non-appearance of Samoa Joe (see below), the set up for this has worked pretty well. TNA writers sometimes have trouble communicate character motivation and keeping it consistent, but they’ve done pretty well this time.

Mick Foley’s statement about not defending his title more than once a year is a red flag that the title will change in this match. I’ll save the predictions for later in the week, but the match has some excellent candidates to wear the gold. That raises the uncertainty, which boosts the match’s excitement.

Wrestler of the WeekL Samoa Joe

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
OWW Wrestler of the Week: Samoa Joe
Our resident philosopher profiles the Samoan Submission Machine, who is currently on a campaign to eliminate the entire Main Event Mafia, by himself.

Samoa Joe often takes criticism from writers due to his less-than-muscular physique. The chants of “Sloppy Joe” make it sound as if Joe can barely lace up his boots. In reality, Joe is one of the best of the big men, especially when it comes to size-defying moves. Joe took out both Scott Steiner and Booker T in vicious “First Blood” matches on !mpact! Joe’s already eliminated 3 of the 5 male members of the Main Event Mafia. Despite an injury, Joe is planning on working until Slammiversary. Destroying two former World Champions in 1 night (3 in 2 weeks) pushed Samoa Joe to the top of the TNA pantheon of superstars. It also garnered him this week’s OWW Wrestler of the Week award.

Who Should Be Raw GM?

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
Who Should Become General Manager of Raw?
Our resident philosopher sizes up the possible replacements for the exiting Vickie Guerrero.

Vickie Guerrero recently quit her position as the GM of Raw. The storyline was that she was tired of being humiliated by the fans and other WWE superstars. The honest truth is she wanted to dedicate more time to her kids. I respect her for walking away from such a high profile position for her family. With Vickie gone, Raw has an opening for a new General Manager. I thought it might be fun to run down the possible candidates and try and figure out who, if anyone, will take over the reigns of the Crimson Flagship.

Stephanie McMahon:

The Billion Dollar Princess has turned into one hot mama, with a temper as scorching as her looks. She was in charge of the show until Randy Orton hit the Rope-Assisted DDT on her, a few months back. Steph could make life a living Hell for Legacy, and a few other heels, as well. She would also get to spend a great deal more time with her hubby, Triple H. The main objection that she might be facing is the same thing that caused Vickie to give notice, her kids. Would Stephanie want to Run the Roads anymore? I think she might be a short-term run as the Captainette of the Ship, but, long-term, someone else will get the nod.

Alan Wojcik: The last time we met in person was October 2006 at a Florida event and you were still working for Ring of Honor. But not long after letting Homicide shave your head after a “Fight Without Honor” you stopped working for ROH. What went down with ROH and have you seen their HDNet TV show?

The Impact (6/12) Insight
Our resident philosopher recaps all the action and adventure in this week’s edition of TNA !mpact!

The final spot for the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary was granted after Kurt Angle and Sting fought. Samoa Joe continued his crusade to eliminate the Main Event Mafia with two “First Blood” matches. Also, Mick Foley had an announcement regarding Jeff Jarrett’s assault on Earl Hebner (and, no, it wasn’t giving him a medal).
