Top 2009 Pro Wrestlers
The Kingfish Arnie Katz picks his favorite WWE and TNA professional wrestlers for 2009.
In professional wrestling, unlike the amateur grunt-and-groaners, the man who wrestles best is not necessarily the best wrestler. Athleticism and ring skill are important to the success of a performer in the wrestling show, but other factors like verbal ability, charisma and overall appearance can turn a great wrestler into a jobber and a mediocre one into a champion.
A main eventer must excel in all, or at least most, of those areas to hold a place at the top of a card. Some of the premier attractions, from Bruno Sammartino to Hulk Hogan, have been less than spectacular as pure wrestlers, but they possessed other qualities to such an extent that their total performance put them in the spotlight.
Many performers distinguished themselves in 2009. Here are my favorites, based on their activity in the year just ending.

We always talk about the angels up in heaven, and how they are there watching and guiding us. We always look up into the sky when we talk about angels and their work. The truth is the real angels are here on earth walking amongst us. They are the ones that were placed on earth to guide us and help us through our stay. Doc was an angel of this earth and only those who he has touched can truly understand what I am about to say. Doc’s work here is done and now God has rewarded him with peace and eternal rest.

Top 2009 Comedy Characters
The Kingfish Arnie Katz picks his favorite WWE and TNA funny men and women for 2009.
There’s a lot of humor in pro wrestling, at least if you’re talking about quantity. Quality is another matter. Unless you’re a big fan of jock humor – kiss someone’s ass, pull down someone’s pants, hit someone with a trophy –then you probably think pro wrestling is hilarious. Otherwise, you see a lot of pathetic attempts at humor.
I don’t want to accent the negative, so there’ll be no “worst this” or “worst that” of the year. If I planned to put together a “Worst Comedy Characters of the Year” category, there would be more contenders than in the ”Best Comedy Character” award.
Still there were some genuine laughs, so let’s talk about those who succeed.

Like every other part of the entertainment field, pro wrestling’s its fashions and fads. Once it seemed like about half the wrestlers were bleached blonds in dazzling ring robes, but now such characters are rare.
Tag teams are currently not in fashion. The bookers prefer three-way dances and six- or eight=man cluster schmazzes. There are still some excellent teams out there, though, and it’s time to salute the ones I believe are the best at the present time.
