Genesis Preview & Predictions

The Katz Files
Genesis Preview & Predictions
The Kingfish Arnie Katz gets you ready for Genesis, the first pay per view of the Hogan-Bischoff regime.

The names of wrestling pay per views often have, at most, a tangential connection to what is going to take place. This time, though, the name fits the theme for the event like a glove. This is the true beginning of the “new” TNA, the first time Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have put together a PPV for the promotion.

TNA has high hopes for what is a hastily assembled show, Nonetheless, there are some exciting match-ups and it should be a strong card on the screen, even if it seems somewhat haphazard on paper.

And now, let’s look at the matches.

My Genesis Predictions

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
My Genesis Predictions
Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, breaks out his crystal ball, tea leaves and lucky coin to try and decipher and predict this rather strange Pay-per-view

Well, this is the first PPV of the Hogan-era. It is set to be filled with all kinds of surprises. I’m going to do my best to try and sift through all the strangeness and figure out where TNA is going with this one.

D’Angelo “The Pope” Dinero v Desmond Wolfe

Backstory: Wolfe’s arrival in TNA was supposed to be the next big thing. He struggled with his first feud, against Kurt Angle. Dinero, the former Elijah Burke of ECW fame, has been building momentum over the last few months. He came out even in his first feud, with Suicide. Dinero already has a surprise win over Wolfe.

Prediction: I’m not sure I understand the need for this match. Dinero is set to go against Orlando Jordan (or whatever they end up calling him). Wolfe is set to move up to the top level. I expect Wolfe to take out Dinero. Dinero will miss the DDE. Wolfe will lift him onto the ropes and nail the Tower of London.

Predicted Winner: Desmond Wolfe
Predicted Grade: B+

My Weekly TNA Notebook

The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
My Weekly TNA Notebook
The Kingfish Arnie Katz provides insight and analysis based on the 1/15 episode of iMPACT.

Generation Me’s Debut
TNA gave Max and Jeremy a major win over the Motor City Machine Guns in a slam-bang finish to an A- match. That’s huge for an unknown duo and indicates that TNA has plans for Generation Me. The most likely first step will be a program against the Guns, which Shelley and Sabin will win in the long run.

Mike Tenay called the Machine Guns a great X Division tag team. If that’s a tease for a new belt, it sounds like a very good idea. It would certainly be an improvement over the practice of feeding the physically smaller teams to the larger ones.

The Impact (1/14) Insight
Our resident philosopher looks at this week’s edition of TNA Impact

TNA presented their follow-up to Monday Night Impact and the lead-in to this Sunday’s Genesis. More surprises popped up as the show went along.

This Week’s Episode: The Band

TNA opened with a look back at Monday Night Impact. Ric Flair, Sean Morley, Jeff Hardy, Scott Hall, Eric Bischoff, X-Pac and The Nasty Boys showed up. Hulk Hogan threw major respect out to Kurt Angle and A.J. Styles. Hulk put Jeff Jarrett in his place. Eric took out Mick Foley, with the help of the various nWo members.

Ring of Honor, You Anger Me

Written by Scott NDX for OWW Genesis.

I am tired of ROH giving us the same matches on the same shows in the same city.

Where does this stem from? Final Battle 2008 saw Tyler Black wrestle Austin Aries. Final Battle 2009 saw Tyler Black challenge Austin Aries for the world title in an hour long (and poorly paced) time limit draw. In between those 2 shows, ROH gave us, twice, Aries vs. Black in some fashion, be it a triple threat title match or a ridiculously booked tag elimination. And how does ROH switch it up for the 8th anniversary show? They don’t. Instead, they give us Aries vs. Black.
