!BANG! TV Report – Debut Match of Dory Funk IV  (4th Generation of Funk)
 
Few in the wrestling business will forget their “Debut Match” in professional wrestling.   I am sure this will be the case of Dory Funk IV (The Doctor of Funk, Dr. Dory Funk Jr.) 
 
I can remember like yesterday my Debut match in Amarillo, with West Texas State University All American, Jerry Logan in my corner against Don Fargo with partner Jim Dalton in his corner.
 
In the audience, my Mother, Father, The West Texas University Football Team, Tascosa High School Wrestling Team and the forever loyal Amarillo, Texas Wrestling Fans. (more…)

As many of you know this past Tuesday I made my debut as part of the well established OWW Radio show (Online World of Wrestling) becoming the co-host with Nick Anthony. A few weeks back the show sent out an e-mail asking people if they wanted to help behind the scenes. I replied asking if they were looking for on-air talent, but they declined and I politely declined their offer to be a producer. I figured they might be after my contacts in the business, but then reviewed their website and saw they had all that and more.

Flash forward to about two weeks ago and Nick Anthony writes me directly asking if the interest in being on-air talent was still in my mind. To be honest I was totally caught off guard. I didn’t expect an e-mail, figuring they have their thing going and I have my thing doing on-line interviews, book & DVD reviews and event results. Before talking to Nick I checked out a podcast of a recent show and told my wife and friends that know of my wrestling background, “This show is great, why the heck do they want me? I wonder if they ‘re going to want me to stop doing my wrestling work outside their show.”

FOUR JOSHI STARS HEADED TO SHIMMER & JAPW DURING APRIL!
 
Management of both SHIMMER – WOMEN ATHLETES and the JERSEY ALL PRO WRESTLING WOMEN’S DIVISION are proud to announce the addition of four of the top young female professional wrestlers from Japan to our upcoming live events.

Freelance star AYUMI KURIHARA, as well as S-Ovation Co. Ltd. talents HIROYO MATSUMOTO, MISAKI OHATA, and TOMOKA NAKAGAWA will make their United States debuts on events promoted by both SHIMMER and JAPW during the month of April 2010.

These four joshi puroresu athletes will participate in SHIMMER’s Vols. 29-32 tapings on Saturday, April 10th and Sunday, April 11th at the Berwyn Eagles Club, 6309 26th Street, in Berwyn, IL. Bell time on 4/10 is 2pm, and bell time on 4/11 is 1pm. Visit www.SHIMMERwrestling.com for tickets. General admission seating is still available for both days, and a handful of front row tickets still remain for the Sunday, 4/11 event.

Pro Wrestling production company Kayfabe Commentaries and digital content provider HybridENT.tv have today announced and launched an exclusive agreement.  The deal places Kayfabe Commentaries’ premium shoot-style programs on HybridENT’s network of streaming video.  HybridENT’s channels can be viewed at www.HybridEnt.tv.
 
HybridENT offers streaming content for a fee for a fixed rental period.  Kayfabe Commentaries’ programming launched on the site today, starting with 5 titles which are available to stream for $9.99 each.  KC co-owner Sean Oliver says it’s the immediacy of the process that was most attractive to the company.

The Milk & Honey Era of Tag Team Wrestling

Oh the milk and honey did flow during the 1980′s, regardless of whether they were title contenders or not, this era of tag teams was treated with dignity; Windham & Rotundo, Sheik & Volkoff, The British Bulldogs, The Hart Foundation, Strike Force, The Killer Bees, The Rougeaus, The Young Stallions, Demolition, The Islanders, The Bolsheviks, The Brain Busters, The Rockers, Martel & Garea, Fuji & Saito, The Moondogs, everyone had a place and a purpose.

One of my favourite tag team rivalries was the Killer Bees/Volkoff & Sheik program from ’86ish-’87, I didn’t start watching wrestling until 1988 but I did catch up with a lot of video tapes dating back to 1984. I guess as a kid I was drawn to the cool KB striped outfits, Volkoff & Sheik’s villainous yet humorous verbal attacks against America, but what really drew me to this feud was the unusual, comedic cheating perpetrated by the Killer Bees.

 It’s time for another column and there is lots of news in regards to the pro wrestling world. One of the main stories that have people up in anger are the changes in WWE PPV’s. Some of the PPV’s I agree with the change and some of them I just do not understand. This week I’m going to go through each of them and give thoughts.

April will now feature WWE Uncensored…… I mean….. Extreme Rules! This is not a new PPV, it existed last year but the date has been changed. Personally, I am thrilled that Backlash is gone. I never liked Backlash and in all the years Backlash has been around I cannot think of one great Backlash moment. I can think of a terrible Backlash moment when Goldberg made his debut and beat The Rock. Bottom line is we know what to expect from this event, so if you probably know if you will buy it or not.  (more…)
