Sunset Flip: NXT Report Cards (Part 2)

Sunset Flip Presents
NXT Report Cards Part 2

By Jim Boy Star

In about one week, NXT will be giving out “report cards” to the NXT rookies. Last week I took a look at four of the NXT rookies and this week I will check out the rest. So let’s start.

Justin Gabriel: There are not that many rookies that have an easy time getting along with their pros. Justin Gabriel actually does. In fact, I may go so far as to call him “The Real Matt Hardy Version 2”. I’ve seen times where they dress up the same.
As far as records go, he has three wins and one loss. Not bad at all. Also in a tag team match, Gabriel pinned a pro in William Regal. Now, sure, everyone beats Regal nowadays but for a rookie to do it, it is still an accomplishment.
His actual in ring abilities do not stand out to me and I’m not sure if I’ve seen enough of him on the mic. It seems that when the report cards come out, it will show that he has some good wins, but nothing makes him stand out. Not terrible, but not great and there are others that I feel have a much better chance than Justin in terms of winning the whole competition.

Hall of Fame Memories

The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
Hall of Fame Memories

The Kingfish Arnie Katz shares his thoughts and memories of the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2010..

WrestleMania is surely pro wrestling’s grandest stage, but the Hall of Fame induction ceremony is now a WM eve tradition. Yes, the WWE Hall of Fame is hypocritical, self-serving and little more than an annual marketing tool. You don’t have to look much further than lovable Bob Uecker for an example of someone who got chosen for reasons other than his contribution to professional wrestling.

Yet even though we know it’s phony, there’s something about that Hall of Fame show that keeps us in front of the set for a very enjoyable 60 minutes of runaway nostalgia.

I babbled into my digital recorder while I watched the program and I thought I’d share some of my memories with you.

What Happened NXT

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
What Happened NXT — Week Five

The newest show is a week away from its first round of voting. It was another chance to impress the Pros (and maybe the fans). Sadly, the WWE Universe won’t get a vote in all this. Otherwise, Syfy might be looking for something new to fill the Tuesday night spot.

Josh Mathews, Michael Cole and Matt Striker welcomed the home audience to the show. Striker talked about next week’s Pro Poll.

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel came out for the opening contest. They were tagging together, instead of fighting each other. Their opponents were Skip Sheffield and Wade Barrett.

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel d Skip Sheffield and Wade Barrett

The Finish:

Skip took the tag and did a Stall Suplex. Justin landed face-first.Skip with a Scoop SLam and Big Splash. Skip Shouldered Justin. Wade tagged himself back in and pounded on Justin’s ribs. Skip tagged back in and punched and Shouldered Justin. Power Whip by SKip but missed the Charge. Heath took the tag and hit Flying Fore-arms and a a nice Neckbreaker. Flying Fore-arm in the corner. Skip reversed an Irish Whip but took a boot to the face.Haeth with a Flying Crossbody but SKip held him. Heath slipped free and Wade came in to “help” his partner. What happened was Wade accidentally Booted his own partner to cost his team the win.

As I write this on Sunday before Wrestlemania 26, it seems that tonight’s PPV will make a fitting and happy ending that real life (let alone wrestling) don’t often give us. The two old warriors, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels will walk off, at least for awhile, into the sunset.
