What Happened NXT

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
What Happened on the 5/18 NXT show

Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, looks at who was the next kid to get his walking papers on WWE’s Lame Duck Show…NXT.

The dominoes continued to tumble as NXT released yet another pretender to the throne. The five men were on pins and needles as they had to show off for the pros to keep their spot.

Matt Striker brought out the pros to talk about what they look for in the Rookies. They all basically said the same thing: exciting, entertaining and the ability to keep the WWE Universe’s attention.

The iMPACT Insight

The Impact Insight Returns!

Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, resurrects his old TNA Recap/Analysis column for TNA. The show is now back on Thursdays.

TNA is rushing towards the annual Slammiversary mega-show. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place, this week. Plus, an old favorite returned to the Knockout division. TNA also announced the Top 10 contenders to the TNA World Title.

The show opened with a look at Sacrifice. Tara was gone after the show. Jeff Jarrett was taken to the hospital, a beaten and bloody mess. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall somehow retained the World Tag Team titles. RVD got past A.J. Styles, thanks to Jay Lethal neutralizing Ric Flair.

More about Ring Rants

The Katz Files
Ring Rants: Part Two

The Kingfish Arnie Katz presents the second, and final, part of his survey of one of the most fascinating aspects of pro wrestling, the rant.

Is There Too Much Talk?
The two major promotions devote less than 25% of their shows’ air-time to wrestling. At time, the action accounts for as little as one-sixth of the total package.

In light of that, it’s natural to wonder whether there is now too much talking. At one time, rants did little more than provide separation between matches and advertise upcoming house shows. As anyone who has watched the first 20 minutes of RAW, Smackdown or iMPACT can readily attest, the days when big-time North American pro wrestling depends largely on ring action are gone, gone gone.

Sunset Flip Presents: Raw Is Illogical

Sunset Flip Presents:
Raw Is Illogical

By Jim Boy Star

I know what you are all thinking. I said in my last column, I was taking time off. Then I watched Raw and I could not resist but write a column.

Whenever I’m displeased with any wrestling show, it usually does not have to do with the wrestlers themselves. It is all about the booking and with exception to the mere appearance of Jack Swagger and Chris Jericho’s truthful promo, the rest of the show is a great example on “How to Not Book a Pro Wrestling Show”.

Ring Rants

The Katz Files
Ring Rants: Part One

The Kingfish Arnie Katz presents his survey of one of the most fascinating aspects of pro wrestling, the rant.

I saw my first televised pro wrestling match around the age of four. I was a Baby Boomer, born in mid-1946, a suitable interval after my father returned from World War II.

The boots-and-trunks, pseudo-sport matches that predominated at that time didn’t interest me as much as Hopalong Cassidy, Tom Corbett, Space Cadet and Howdy Doody. I watched wrestler when nothing else was on.
