AS I SEE IT: Bubba the Douchebag

Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets
PWBTS.com

It tells you something ablout someone in wrestling when of all websites, WrestlingObserver.com has a actual headline about an wrestling figure being fired and titles it “TNA fires douchebag”. While wrestling has more than its share of real-life douchebags, it’s the first time I know of that Dave Meltzer’s website called such a person for what they are.

Monday War Journal

The Katz Files
Monday (3/29) War Journal

The Kingfish Arnie Katz takes a hard look at the current state of the competition between WWE and TNA. The den of professional wrestling journalists lets it rip without fear or favor.

The Kingfish says: Looking for a segment-by-segment comparison? Check out HeadLocker’s “Monday Night War Analysis.” Jay does an outstanding job and our ringside philosopher is one of the most observant and knowledgeable columnists on the Internet.

Can Both Sides Lose a War?

The Second Monday Night Pro Wrestling War continues to sputter along uneventfully. It has lacked the fireworks that fans hoped the competition would inspire.

The product hasn’t benefited only a little. WWE has risen from the depths of its January-March dullness, but it still could sand a lot more improvement. The Hogan-Bischoff team has made some improvements, but they’re also brought in some questionable performers and set up a few rotten storylines.

Monday Night Wars Analysis

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon
The Monday Night Wars Analysis for April 26,2010

Our resident philosopher compares the two Monday Night wrestling programs on several key components and picks the weekly winner.

Raw offered up it’s annual 3-hour Draft special. TNA countered with the beginning of the Rob Van Dam era. Raw threw out several “Draft Pick” battles, while TNA brought Ric Flair out of retirement, yet again, to face a Monster. Let’s compare the two and see who was better.

Opening Segment

RAW: The Hart Dynasty d Big and Awesome for the Unified Tag Team titles. Bret Hart dissed Miz, The Mountie and David Arquette in one little rant that was one of the best disses that I’ve heard in a long time. After the match, Big Show busted Miz in the jaw, dissolving ShowMiz for good. (Show would later be Drafted over to Smackdown)

TNA: Hulk Hogan came out and pushed RVD to the extreme. RVD then came out and talked about how some people didn’t understand his lifestyle and personal choices. Whatever. A.J. Styles and Ric Flair came out to rant and rave. Same ol’ Same ol’.

Winner: RAW

Christian vs. Edge

For some reason, WWE isn’t pulling the trigger on one of the most anticipated matches in the entire business right now, Christian vs Edge.

This past week on Smackdown, WWE teased the feud by putting Christian and Edge into the same ring, and as expected, the two to of them put on the most smoothly running mic works seen in recent memory. It’s a well known fact that Vince McMahon doesn’t believe that Christian can be a future main event wrestler in his company, that’s pretty much the only thing that is standing in the way of this feud.

TNA fires Bubba The Love Sponge!

Reported by Mike Aldren and the Wrestling Globe Newsletter:

Tampa radio shock-jock and TNA personality Todd Clem (Bubba the Love Sponge) has been fired following a stunt earlier this week where he ambushed Kia Stevens (Awesome Kong) during a call-in interview on the Cowhead radio show.

In a rare public firing, a statement posted last night on the TNA Website read: Effective immediately, TNA Wrestling has elected to terminate the services of Todd Clem p/k/a  Bubba the Love Sponge.

2010 James C. Melby Historian award winner

2010 James C. Melby Historian award winner … Vance Nevada

Canadian professional wrestler Vance Nevada has maintained one of the most aggressive schedules on the independent wrestling scene.  Having just reached the 1,300 match milestone in his seventeen year career, his upcoming schedule sees him in rings from coast to coast in Canada over the coming month.

However, his in-ring success pales in comparison to the body of work that he has done beyond the glare of the ring lights.  For more than fifteen years, Nevada has been working to preserve the history of the sport through the collection of results, the assembly of more than 230 wrestler-specific career records, and most recently, the publication of his second book WRESTLING IN THE CANADIAN WEST.
