AS I SEE IT
Bob Magee
Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets
PWBTS.com
Given that we just had a weekend full of independent show in the Northeast this past weekend.. thought I’d run a repeat of my column on promoting iloical independents.
As most of you know, PWBTS.com, the flagship site of this column, focuses on coverage and promotion of independent wrestling. As someone who happily shills independent wrestling promotions whenever possible, one of the things that pisses me off is the way independent promotions seems to have no sense about the basic sorts of things that they need to do to promote their product. I’d like to offer some observations as to some of those things I think that promotions need to do to publicize their product online. I realize that some people may find some of the suggestions listed below to be painfully obvious, but trust me…they aren’t. All too many independent promoters don’t use some or all of these ideas. I’ve seen all too many cases where promoters don’t…well…promote… and crowds suffer accordingly. But that’s not all.

WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez
Makes 30th World Title Defense
(New York) – September 2010 has been a great month so far for WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez. Martinez, the greatest women’s wrestler in the world today, continued to show why she’s one of the best last night at EVOLVE, in a match part of WSU’s “On The Road” DVD series. Several days before this match took place, Martinez was ranked #3 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s “Top 50 Females of Wrestling”. This has always been a list compiled mostly of WWE & TNA women. Mercedes Martinez broke another barrier in women’s wrestling, and was the highest ranked independent wrestler on the list. While WSU fans understand that WWE & TNA women can not be ignored, many fans are saying that Martinez should have been number 1. However, fans will be happy to know that Martinez has dominated PWI’s weekly & monthly rankings at the number 1 spot, and is currently ranked number 1 in the world by PWI magazine.

On FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2010, WRESTLING FOR A CAUSE PRESENTED WRESTLE WAR 2010 at the SCOTTISH RITE MASONIC CENTER, 5500 MEMORIAL HIGHWAY in TAMPA, FL. The event benefited the Town N Country Packers.
(1) Jerome Hendrix defeated “Latin Lover” Ricky Romeo.
Romeo was not too pleased the fans were behind Hendrix so he tried to win them over and failed miserably. Romeo got backed to a neural corner twice and on the break slapped his hands claiming he had been punched. The third time it backfired as referee Billy Dalton saw it all go down. Hendrix took over with three bodyslams and slid to the floor. Hendrix followed and paid when they got back in as Romeo was waiting to drop a boot on his head. Romeo went to work on Hendrix using every dirty trick you can think. The bad part was none of it led to a pinfall or submission. Romeo avoided a corner cross body press and hit his finishing spinebuster but got only two. Hendrix scored a sunset flip for two after referee Dalton kicked his hands off the ropes. As Romeo argued with the referee, Hendrix scored a rollup pinfall that led to an in-ring temper tantrum from Romeo.
