GLOBAL ATTACK PRO-WRESTLING – SATURDAY 11 AUGUST, 2007

MELBOURNE SPORTS & AQUATIC CENTRE, VIC

The Australasian Wrestling Federation (AWF) invades the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre on Sat 11 August to present Global Attack Pro-Wrestling.

AWF’s top stars along with 3 international visiting wrestlers will converge on Albert Park to take part in this 2 1/2 hour super card, that will feature 8 hard hitting, action filled spectacular pro-wrestling bouts.

International guests for the Global Attack event are Steve Corino (USA), Masato Tanaka (Japan) and Billy Kidman (USA).

All three visitors have wrestled in main events and held championships around the world, and their presence at Global Attack will bring a truly world class feel to the event.

The Melbourne show will see one of Japan’s top rivalries come to Australia, with Steve Corino battling Masato Tanaka. Both men regularly appear for the Zero-1 Max promotion in Japan and have waged many wars against each other across the orient.

In the USA both combatants have held the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, and at Global Attack will look to bring their skills, and intensity of their battles to Australia for fans to see firsthand why they are two of the most skilled in the business.

In another main bout, the AWF Australasian Championship will be on the line, when AWF Champion TNT, defends his title against Lee Starr.

TNT has been tearing up the competition in recent months competing against the world’s best. At June’s Global Attack events he defeated USA’s Austin Aries, Billy Kidman and Kid Kash. Shortly after, TNT became the first Australian to appear for Dragon Gate Pro-Wrestling, wrestling a successful tour in Japan. In July TNT successfully defended his AWF Championship in NSW against Dragon Gate stars Masaaki Mochizuki and Ryo Saito.

Lee Starr has just returned to Australia after spending many months in Canada training with Lance Storm and wrestling all over the country. Lee’s successful overseas stint sees him at the top of his game, and he will no doubt be looking to take TNT’s AWF Title at Global Attack.

The World Series Wrestling Championship (WSW) will also be defended, with Billy Kidman (USA) battling former AWF Champion, Steve Ravenous.

Kidman became WSW Champion by defeating “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson in Newcastle on 3 June. Kidman is noted as being one of the top high fliers in wrestling, and has downed many opponents with his famed shooting star press.

Steve Ravenous is the head of “The Platinum Players” group, and he says he is coming to Melbourne to take the WSW gold. Ravenous has been facing the best AWF has to offer in 2007, wrestling the likes of Cima, Nigel McGuinness and Masaaki Mochizuki. In February he became the 2007 Australia’s Cup holder by defeating Mark Hilton, which earned him the right to a title shot at his disgression. He has chosen Global Attack, and says he is ready to become WSW Champion.

In other exciting bouts the AWF Tag Team Titles will be defended with “Platinum Player’s” Kid Dynamite & JT Robinson defending against Victoria’s “Bastard Brothers”. The Young Lion’s Championship will also be defended with Powerhouse Theo against Slexx. There will also be hard hitting 3 Way action featuring Spike Steele, Jay Andrews and Mad Dog Mcrea, plus a tag team and young lion’s bout to round out the card.

In addition to the Global Attack Live event, there will be the Global Attack Extra Meet and Greet. Fans will be able to ask the wrestlers questions, obtain autographs and photos, and get up close to the Global Attack stars.

AWF Global Attack is set to be a great night in the rise of the AWF as a truly international promotion, so be sure to support this event as it will be full of action and excitement any true wrestling fan would not want to miss.

All AWF Champions, being TNT, Powerhouse Theo, and Platinum Players JT Robinson and Kid Dynamite managed to retain their Championships. As part of the tour new World Series Wrestling Champion’s were crowned, the first being Bryan Danielson who was then defeated by Billy Kidman who left the tour the reigning champion after victory in Newcastle, NSW.

For those who want to see what they missed, or if you wish to relive the tour, the official dvd’s of the International Assault Tour 2007 are now available for purchase. Events are Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle, and are $30 each or $75 for all 3 and include postage. Available by sending cheque or money order to AWF Wrestling: PO Box 473, Plumpton, NSW, 2770. Dragon Gate Pro-Wrestling Japan, and the Australian Wrestling Federation are pleased to announce a working agreement that will see talent trades and good relations between both companies.

AWF Champion TNT embarked on a successful 3 show tour 14-16 June, and was a hit with Japanese fans.

Dragon Gate stars Ryo Saito and Masaaki Mochizuki invaded AWF rings on 6-8 July for the Double Dragon Gate Challenge, facing AWF stars TNT, Mark Hilton, Billy Flyswat and Steve Ravenous in exciting bouts as part of the huge weekend.

DVD’s of the Double Dragon Gate Challenge will be available soon.

AWF will look to see more of it’s wrestlers appear in Japan later in 2007.

Global Attack Pro-Wrestling events are coming August 11 and 12. The follow up to the Double Dragon Gate Challenge tour will see more international stars come to AWF for shows in Melbourne at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and Sydney at the UNSW Roundhouse. Overseas guests flying in especially for these events are Steve Corino (USA), Masato Tanaka (Japan) and Billy Kidman (USA). Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster (Vic) and Ticketek (NSW). Be sure to support these events so AWF can promote bigger and better shows and continue to bring some of the best names in wrestling to Australia.

Steve Ravenous has stated that he will be the new WSW Champion when he faces Billy Kidman at Global Attack on 12 August at UNSW Roundhouse, Sydney. Ravenous uses his Title shot for winning the Australia’s Cup tournament in February to gain the championship bout.

AWF Champion TNT will wrestle in Western Australia on 28 July for All Action Wrestling. TNT will be challenged by WA’s Shark, who is one of the hottest talents in the region. There are negotiations taking place for AWF to have events in WA later in 2007 as a follow up.

AWF’s Jay Law has just returned from a successful stay wrestling and training in the USA. Jay wrestled many of California’s best, and says he is looking forward to enforcing AWF rings again on upcoming events. He says he especially has a problem with Billy Flyswat, who is the assistant trainer at the AWF School of Pro-Wrestling. Law says he will stamp out Flyswat and teach him lessons about the Law at their upcoming Global Attack encounters.

Harry Hardshaw of Ireland debuted in AWF rings on the 6 July Penrith event, impressively defeating Chris X. Hardshaw has competed extensively for the Irish Whip promotion in Ireland, and says he has come to AWF to show why the European style of wrestling is superior to the AWF style. Hardshaw has been quick to challenge all comers, including Young Lion’s Champion, Powerhouse Theo, who he will face at Blacktown on 25 August.

Dreamcamp July 2007 was a fun 4 day experience for those in attendance. Thanks to Royce, Matthew, Alistair and James for making it fun. Any would be applicants for the next camp which will be in January 2008 feel free to apply at [email protected]

For all that are interested in becoming professional wrestlers the AWF School of Pro-Wrestling new beginners classes start 9am, Sat 1 September.

Email [email protected] for application or call 0410691377, to take on the challenge. Must be 16 years +.

“The Polynesian Warrior” Mana will be making his presence felt in AWF in August at the “All Pumped Up & Ready To Go Weekend”. Mana is New Zealand’s greatest current wrestling export, wrestling independent stars across the USA such as Sabu, Tommy Dreamer and many others. His great track record has earned him an AWF Title shot against TNT (if he is still Champion) for 25 August at Blacktown, NSW. This will be a showdown that AWF fans will not want to miss.

Taipan has been impressive in recent bouts thwarting the competition with his powerful in ring attack. The 120 kg muscle man scored the biggest win of his career at the Penrith 6 July event defeating former AWF Champion Il Cognito with his “Snakebite splash”. Taipan will face his biggest challenge to date at Global Attack, against Steve Ravenous.

The Platinum Players continue to make trouble for TNT and anyone else in AWF, with the Player’s head Steve Ravenous clocking TNT with the AWF Title at the Fairy Meadow event on 7 July, costing Team AWF of TNT & Billy Flyswat the victory to Team Dragon Gate of Masaaki Mochizuki & Ryo Saito in their tag team main event. After the bout The Players even tried to steal the spotlight from Team Dragon Gate, but TNT and Flyswat retaliated and Team AWF & Team DG worked together to take out the Players. TNT had a lump on his head after the bout and vowed to sort Ravenous in the future.

Congratulations to Mike Vandall for making his AWF debut at Fairy Meadow on 7 July. Mike recently graduated from the AWF School of Pro-Wrestling, and will appear on future AWF events.

AWF has a new referee in the form of Eric D’Kreiger. Longtime fans may remember Eric as a wrestler from a few years back, often teaming with the European Assassin as the European Alliance. Eric says he has returned to AWF as a referee to enforce the rulebook and bring fairness to AWF bouts.

Look for AWF to appear as part of the huge Pop Culture Expo that is Supanova. AWF will appear 13 & 14 October in matches spanned through the day, and will bring excitement to the event like never before. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketek to this huge event.
