=====================================================================

The Angry Hero, Blade, & Mosh welcomed Ronnie to the program — on the eve of the NWA Legends Fan Fest in Charlotte, NC (happening this weekend: log onto www.NWALegends.com for more information). Garvin is very excited about seeing some familiar faces that has not seen in years, and was very much looking forward to seeing not only his former competitors in the ring, but also the fans — who supported the business for many years. was welcomed to the Monday Night Mayhem airwaves.

The Big Mosh brought up the fact of how wrestling conventions “bridge the generation gap” between “old-school” fans & those of today. Ronnie believes that is very important, but also finds it funny that when the older fans, who talk about the ’70’s, ’80’s, & early ’90’s, discuss the business, their kids look at them as if they don’t know who they are. The parents can then tell the kids all about the glory days of that time period, and indeed bring them up-to-speed, so to speak.

The Angry Hero mentioned the feud that Ronnie had with the legendary Jake “The Snake” Roberts in Georgia. Garvin strongly feels that back then, the business had “real talent,” and that Jake was one of the greatest in his time.

It has been almost twenty years since Garvin defeated “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. When it came to his own personal career & how he wanted to be remembered, Ronnie said that he wanted people to remember him “looking the best, not when he looked the worst.” Retiring at the age of 45 years old in 1990 is something that Garvin does not look back on at all as a bad decision. Ronnie said that when he quit, he “never missed wrestling.” He has been doing other things (such as hunting & fishing) that he does not have time to miss it.

Ronnie gave props to Boris Malenko for being one of the influences for the Garvin Stomp. He originally saw that move used in the ’60’s, and felt it was important enough to use as one of his finishing maneuvers. He also wished to give much thanks to the legendary announcer, Gordon Solie, who is responsible for giving Garvin his nickname of “Hands Of Stone.” Ronnie calls Gordon “one of the greatest announcers of any era.”

Blade & Mosh mentioned Ronnie’s feud with Tully Blanchard from 1986, and the series of Taped Fist Matches they had. Garvin remembers working with Terry, but does not remember whose idea it was to have that particular feud. With having many battles with many wrestlers over the years, he feels that it has become semi-difficult to remember some of the smaller details leading up into the matches themselves.

Of his entire time in the World Wrestling Federation, Ronnie loved working with Greg “The Hammer” Valentine the most, which featured their confrontation at SummerSlam ’89. Garvin said it was his idea for the feud (as he suggested it to Vince McMahon), and that both of them could work well & “dance” together quite well. He also saw his run in the WWF/WWE as purely business.

In closing, Mosh asked Garvin about how the travel schedule was like in his time in the World Wrestling Federation. Ronnie said that their schedule changed — so it went from 12 days on the road & 3 days at home to about 25 days a month, and that is why he only stayed in the WWF/WWE for two years. He had his own airplane, so he could fly himself to each city, and he thoroughly enjoyed that part of the travel. After leaving the company, he became a full-time pilot.

All of this & more can be found in this near 35-minute interview on The Mayhem: including more of Ronnie’s uncensored thoughts on being drug tested in his time in the World Wrestling Federation, whether or not he has been offered a WWE Legends contract, “The Legend Killer” Randy Orton using his Garvin Stomp today, & whether or not he thinks “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair should retire at WrestleMania 24.
