John Ward sent in these comments: Beauregarde’s favorite move was also his finishing move: the thumb. when ready to move in for the kill, beau would start stalking around the ring in a toe to heel kind of war dance. he would stick his right thumbs out (as if hitchhiking) and conceal it behind his right knee. everyone knew what was coming, the announcer would repeat that the thumb was indeed an illegal form of judo, and would lead to disqualification. yet the referee would somehow always get distracted, and in that split second the thumb would fly to the throat of beau’s opponent (usually delivered off of a headlock). if he did not get hit over the head with a steel chair by someone flying out of the lockerroom, beau usually pinned the flopping fish out of water. so there you have it: the thumb!
