As I mentioned, I was in Chicago this past week on vacation.

A shout out to a few folks along the way during my vacation… first, to the folks at Mother Hubbard’s Sports Pub in near North Chicago…to Chicago’s Kathy Fitzpatrick, Mother Hubbard’s owner (no, not the one you’ve read about in my column over the years), the 3 “Jens” behind the bar, and all the assorted regular customers and characters. If you travel to Chicago, are staying anywhere near the Loop, and prefer a neighborhood sports bar that isn’t a tourist trap, has killer Buffalo wings and like to relax and have fun….go to State and Hubbard…this may well be your place.

On Saturday, July 24, 2010 Wrestling for a Cause, Inc. presented SUMMER COLLISION 2010 benefiting Bullets Little League Baseball. The event was held at the Temple Terrace Recreation Center, 6610 E. Whiteway Drive Temple Terrace, Florida 33617. Attendance was 405.

New NWA Ladies World Champion Crowned

On July 24th in Lebanon, TN, MsChif defended her title against Tasha Simone. These two women battled all over the NWA Top Rope arena and then some, even going outside in the parking lot in a No Time Limit, No Disqualification match for the NWA Women’s World Championship.

As these two are no strangers to one another, a packed house of 225 people watched for 32:09 as these women brutalized one another back and forth. From being tossed down a flight of stairs to having their head busted open on a car hood nothing seemed to be out of reach for either competitor. Both women put everything they had into this match and then some.

In an emotional afternoon at the ECW Arena,”Acid-Fest” took place yesterday afternoon, before an estimated crowd of 750 honoring the late Michael “Trent Acid” Verdi. The Verdi family did attend, and were seated ringside with neighborhood friends up in one of the Arena boxes.

FCW Great American Dream Tour

The FCW “Great American Dream Tour” started in Melbourne, FL and will run through a number of Florida cities throughout the summer.  The special guest, of course, was “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.  One of the most charismatic and popular wrestlers of all time, Dusty Rhodes is currently the creative head of Florida Championship Wrestling.

There was a long line of people waiting to meet and greet “The America Dream”.  For reasons unknown, one fan even came dressed in a complete Gene Simmons KISS costume!

Complete WSU 6/26 Results/News Update

Thank you for taking time out to read this update. On Saturday, June 26th, WSU presented “The Third Annual Uncensored Rumble” event, featuring the much hyped WSU World Title Prize Fight between WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez & #1 Contender Alicia. Other big stars competed on this event, and many fans are calling this the best set of WSU DVD tapings yet.

CZW returned to “Markland’s Little Acres” in rural Townsend, DE for Tournament of Death 9 before a loud, large and enthusiastic crowd who got a hot day full of ultraviolence yesterday afternoon.

The day opened with a ten bell salute for Trent Acid with Devon Moore and DJ Hyde (who was having a tough time getting through talking about Acid) in the ring.

In a truly eerie moment for those of us sitting on one side of the area set up for the show (the one side where there were large trees providing some shade)…. as the ten bell sounded, the one cool breeze of the entire day came through our side of the seating (near a grove of trees) and stopped as the ten-bell ended. When I looked at the others I was sitting with (a family associated with CZW), they looked at me and said “Did you feel that too?”. There wasn’t a one of us who had a thought that it was anything but Trent Acid sending us a shout-out.

My brother and I attended a Florida Championship Wrestling house show in Melbourne FL on June 9th, 2010.  This was the second show FCW has run this year in Melbourne.  For those don’t know, FCW is the developmental promotion for the WWE, based in Tampa, FL.  My brother and I enjoy watching the weekly TV show and house shows, as it gives us an early look at the future Superstars of the WWE.

Before the show, fans had the opportunity to meet WWE Superstars The Miz and Christian, as well as NXT Rookies Daniel Bryan, Heath Slater, and Justin Gabriel.  The NXT Rookies were wearing the “N” armbands they sported on Monday Night RAW.  When I asked Bryan if their faction had a name, he said, “You’ll have to keep watching to find out.”

The crowd had high energy for most of the evening, even during the undercard matches.  The event was held at the Melbourne Auditorium and I estimate there were 400-450 fans in attendance.
