We are only 1 1/2 weeks away from Dragon Gate USA’s return to Philadelphia on November 28th. This means things are getting red hot at www.DGUSA.tv so here is the latest:
ALERT: DGUSA is working out its schedule for 2010. It will be at least 6-9 months after the Nov. 28th Philly event until DGUSA returns to Philadelphia or anywhere in the northeast section of the United States. Don’t miss your chance to see DGUSA live when the first champion is crowned.

-There are only about 15 2nd row tickets left for the 11/28 Philly event. 1st, 3rd & VIP Balcony seats are already sold out. 2nd row is the last way you can get early admission to the Eddie Kingston vs. Hallowicked bonus bout and meet & greet. You will also get the free “Independent Tour De Force Vol. 1″ DVD. We asked six promotions to send us their best matches and they have responded. Check Gabe’s new blog for the lineup. This special DVD is not for sale and the only way you can get it in Philly is by purchasing 2nd row seats. Go to DGUSA.tv or call 267-519-9744 to order.
-DGUSA VP Gabe Sapolsky has a new blog up at www.Myspace.com/rohgabe looking at 25 matches he is looking forward to this weekend, plus other stuff including some unusually outspoken thoughts on the Smackdown taping in Philly. Click here to ready it: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&bID=518987200
-Dragon Gate USA is now on Itunes!!! Go to Itunes and do a search for “Dragon Gate USA” to hear Kevin Harvey’s new podcast with some exclusive scoops including new talent headed to DGUSA.
-The DGUSA.tv Feature Articles section has been updated everyday this week with previews of the first round matches in the Nov. 28th Open The Freedom Gate Title tourney in Philly. Go read about Davey Richards vs. YAMATO, CIMA vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Super Crazy vs. Jorge Rivera and Brian Kendrick vs. BxB Hulk and leave your comments about each match.
-The 9/6/09 Chicago event, which was “Untouchable” on pay-per-view, will be released as the “Open The Untouchable Gate” double DVD. This is the show the Davey Richards vs. Shingo and Bryan Danielson vs. Naruki Doi match of the year candidates. We have loaded it up with 90 minutes of extras, bonus matches including the evolution of Davey Richards vs. Shingo, optional commentary, deluxe packaging and more. The DVD will start pre-ordering this Friday, Nov. 20th, in the DGUSA.tv Store. If you pre-order it you will get the Bryan Danielson baseball card like collectible ticket. This is a great keepsake from Danielson’s independent career. It will ship on December 6th so you can get it in plenty of time for Christmas.
-Speaking of Christmas, DGUSA is getting ready for a big holiday season. We have already lowered our domestic shipping rates. Stay tuned…

-Dragon Gate USA and Masked Republic announced a partnership. DGUSA is the first promotion to sign an apparel and licensing deal with Masked Republic, which is the first integrated live event, merchandising, and media organization in the United States specializing in the emerging growth market of lucha libre (Mexican wrestling). -DGUSA will be at this Sunday’s CHIKARA event. We will be selling tickets for the Nov. 28th card. This will also be the public unveiling of the beautiful Open The Freedom Gate Title belt. Wildcat Championship Belts (www.WildcatBelts.com) did a fantastic job making this strap. Fans can take pictures with the belt this Sunday at CHIKARA’s loaded “Season Finale” (www.CHIKARApro.com for card, tix & info).

PWO STAR “M-DOGG 20” MATT CROSS TO APPEAR AT THIS MONTH’S “HULKAMANIA” AUSTRALIA TOUR

“M-Dogg 20” Matt Cross is quite simply “The Innovator of Aerial Insanity”. Through his natural athleticism, and skills learned from being an AAU Junior Olympic Gymnastics Champion in his youth, Cross has crafted a unique style next to impossible to replicate or recreate. Cross’ breathtaking performances, chiseled physique, and one-of-a-kind charisma have led to him becoming one of the most well-traveled athletes in all of professional wrestling today, including stops in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH, Europe for NWE, and everywhere from Hawaii to Egypt along the way. Through all the chaos, M-Dogg also remains one of the elite stars of Pro Wrestling Ohio, airing Sunday nights at 10:00 on Sports Time Ohio (official television network of MLB’s Cleveland Indians) throughout much of the Unites States, where he became the first-ever PWO Champion in the summer of 2008, and has waged wars with the region’s best ever since.

Now, M-Dogg’s international career hits a new plateau with the official signing of M-Dogg 20 Matt Cross for the upcoming Australian “Hulkamania” tour headlined by, who else, “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan. Hogan has quickly once again become the most talked-about name in professional wrestling due to his recent signing with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, but before he returns to US soil, Hogan intends to make major waves throughout Australia. The tour is headlined by a match featuring arguably the two most iconic figures in the sport’s history as Hogan goes one-on-one with 16-time World Champion “Nature Boy” Ric Flair in Flair’s first official match since his retirement at WrestleMania 24.

The entire card for the tour is stacked top-to-bottom with other names such as PWO alumnus Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, The Nasty Boys, Paul London, Lacey Von Erich, and the men formerly known as Mr. Kennedy, Rikishi, Umaga, Val Venis, and many others, and PWO is proud to see one of its own join such a star-studded line-up.

Pro Wrestling Ohio wishes all the best to Matt Cross as he spends the latter-half of November down under, proudly representing PWO with some of professional wrestling’s all time greats!

–

Pro Wrestling Ohio is a regional independent professional wrestling organization headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. Since opening its doors in October 2007, PWO has been televised via the Sports Time Ohio network, official television home of the Cleveland Indians, available in over 4 million homes via basic cable and available nationwide via select sports packages on both DirecTV and Dish Network. PWO utilizes the most exciting and talented professional wrestlers in the region today, with names such as “M-Dogg 20” Matt Cross, Jason Bane, Johnny Gargano, Portia Perez, N8 Mattson and Mike Tolar. PWO also works closely with various causes, having helped raise funds & awareness for such groups as the Cops & Kids program, Wrestler‘s Rescue, and variety of other groups that aid worthy causes and communities. Pro Wrestling Ohio holds live events on a routine basis in suburban Cleveland, Ohio. For more information on PWO, please visit www.pwowrestling.com or e-mail prowrestlingohio@yahoo.com

Canadian wrestler Vance Nevada is on tour with his new book “Wrestling in the Canadian West” and this effort represents the most comprehensive history of the sport north of the 49th parallel ever published.

WHAT’S INSIDE?

This book features:
• Profiles on more than 100 promotions over the past century
• Championship histories
• Statistical rankings for wrestlers and tag teams
• “A Day in Canadian Wrestling History” trivia
• Road stories from the wrestlers themselves, including J.J. Dillon, Kerry Brown, Paul Diamond, Tony Condello, Dean Higuchi, Johnny Devine, Steve Corino, and more!!
• Features on women’s and midget wrestling
• A directory of the top drawing wrestling events of all time in western Canada
• Tons of photos

“Vance Nevada has done as much as anyone in the business as a writer, historian, and as a wrestler. I’d say his contribution is as significant as the Harts or any of the top people in the business in Canada. Having spent a lot of time in that country during my career, it was very interesting to learn some of the history. This book was hard to put down once I started reading it.”
The author clearly illustrates how the business over the years has now come around full circle, as he is living it himself, and dealing with the same trials and tribulations wrestling’s pioneers faced in this area more than a hundred years ago.”

National Tour -November 2009

Tickets on sale now

For the first time ever, Wrestling Legend Hulk Hogan will tour Australia. His new event HULKAMANIA – Let the Battle Begin, will be playing arenas in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney, November 2009.

Ric Flair has been coaxed out of retirement to battle Hulk Hogan in what may be the ultimate grudge match. HULKAMANIA will also feature some of the top stars of wrestling that compete all over the world including Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, Aumaga, Kishi, Black Pearl, Mr Ken Anderson, Shannon Moore, Heidenreich, Pimp Fatha, Brian Knobs, The Nasty Boys, Rock of Love, Orlando Jordan, Vampire Warrior, Val Venis, Stephanie Pietz, Koa-Marie, Jimmy Hart, Lacey von Erich, U Gene, Kiara Dillion, Paul London and more in the ultimate spectacular HULKAMANIA.

For over two decades the name Hulk Hogan has been synonymous with sports entertainment and professional wrestling. Having set live attendance records all over the world including a live gate of more than 96,000 fans at the Pontiac Silverdome, Hulk Hogan has set his sites on Australia as his next frontier.

Hulk made a quick visit to Australia last week and caught a few footy games while he was here.

“Australia is such a beautiful country with beautiful people,” said Hogan. “My fans in Australia are so loyal, I am so glad that we can finally bring Hulkamania to them”

HULKAMANIA will also include state of the art production; the arenas will be plastered with large screens to show the audience what is happening back stage in between wrestling matches. The night will also contain audience participation, a huge pyrotechnics display and more.

From his early beginnings as a young wrestler training under the tutelage of the famed Hiro Matsuda who intentionally broke Hulk Hogan’s leg on his first day of training just to test his desire, Hulk Hogan’s larger that life persona and matching arms have turned the industry into the phenomenon it is today.

Also known as The Nature Boy, Ric Flair is among the most well known wrestlers in the world, and is one of wrestling’s biggest stars. Flair was often popular with the crowd due to his in-ring antics, his cocky interview style, strutting and his shouting of “Woooooo!” The “Woooooo!” yell has since become a tribute to Flair, and is often shouted by the crowd whenever they see Ric.

Unlike most professional wrestling tag teams, Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs are childhood friends known as the Nasty Boys; The Nasty Boys defeated The Hart Foundation for the World Tag Team Championship and held the titles until 1991. BLACK PEARL His grace was born to wrestle.
The aristocratic “Count Of California” is a gifted athlete who mixes impressive size and strength with astonishing agility for a man of his size.

Kishi is one of the most popular and charismatic stars in the history of professional wrestling. He is a 3-time Tag Team Champion and a former Intercontinental Champion who has feuded with the likes of “Stone Cold Steve Austin,” “The Rock” and “Kurt Angle.” The “Samoan Bulldozer”
Aumaga is prepared to run over the competition in Australia. This seemingly uncontrollable savage loves to inflict pain on his opponents, and has left a large wake of destruction behind him thanks to his devastating and debilitating Samoan Spike. Darkness will spread in the arenas of Australia when Vampire Warrior’s sinister presence is made.
Vampire Warrior formed a faction known as “The Brood” along with “Edge”
and “Christian.” The trio eventually became part of “The Ministry Of Darkness” under the rule of “The Undertaker.”

NWA Title Match Canceled;
The Sheik Denied Chance for First World Belt

(Chicago, IL) – Saturday October 24th 2009 was supposed to be the biggest day in the career of professional wrestling’s “IRANIAN ASSASSIN”- The SHEIK.

On that day, the infamous Sheik was to receive a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Title at Cicero Stadium in Chicago, Illinois against Mexican Legend – Blue Demon Jr. The lineage of the NWA World Title can be traced back to the first “Worlds Heavyweight Championship,” a championship that goes all the way back to George Hackenschmidt’s 1905 title. This effectively makes it the oldest surviving wrestling championship, and therefore the most prestigious World Heavyweight Title in recorded history.

Instead of that earned title match, The Sheik received a mere phone call telling him that the match is cancelled. No justification as to why, no rescheduled match, just opportunity gone awry. As one could imagine, this news does not sit well with The Sheik, at all. A legend in his own right, The Sheik has waited 12 years to receive this opportunity to prove he is the best that the sport has ever known.

When asked about his thoughts on the recent cancellation of this high profile match, the furious Sheik was quoted as saying….”The NWA did not back out of this match, The Sheik certainly did not back out of this match, The Mexican promoters backed out of this match! The Mexican people pride themselves on having one of their countrymen holding the NWA World Heavyweight Title. All the while parading him around as if he is an Aztec Warrior. He is no Aztec Warrior. What kind of warrior partakes in all of the glory without any of the risks associated with being the NWA World Champion? Why is this so-called warrior insulated in a comfortable cocoon built around him by the Mexican promoters? Is this to insure that he remains NWA World Champion? I’ve seen him in photos with American stars like the Jonas Brothers, I’ve seen him on television programs rubbing elbows with the rich and famous while I train in a dungeon creating strategies to destroy him. Blue Demon Jr. is a paper champion and the Mexican promoters are guilty of protecting a coward.

Demon is not the Legend that he has falsely created, built on the ashes of his father Blue Demon Senior. I am the LEGEND, the greatest warrior the world of wrestling has ever known. Demon is nothing more than a faceless coward who will be humiliated by my hand. I will be the NWA World Heavyweight Champion!”

There is no word as of yet as to what will become of this. Robert K. Trobich, The Executive Director of the National Wrestling Alliance, has not been reached for comment. We have been told by his associates that an annual NWA meeting will be held in the coming days. Hopefully it will determine the outcome of this story.

(Quincy, MA) – Former WWE Superstar “The Promise” Antonio Thomas, is combining brains with brawn—literally.

Thomas is the latest professional wrestler to donate his brain to concussion research.

The Sports Legacy Institute (SLI), founded by former WWE wrestler Chris Nowinski and Dr. Robert Cantu, is the recipient of Thomas’s donation, which is part of an effort to further understand concussions and their effect on the brain.

The SLI, founded in 2008, is dedicated to advancing the health and wellness of athletes and improving the safety of sports & other athletic endeavors.

“It’s the least I can do, to help other wrestlers and athletes after me,” Thomas says of his involvement with the SLI.

Former NHL star Keith Primeau, whose career was cut short due to multiple concussions, is among the professional athletes who’ve pledged to donate their brains after death, joining several pro wrestlers in the cause.

Wrestling-wise, “The Promise” will appear at the New England Championship Wrestling (NECW) “Tag Team Classic” on Saturday, September 19, in Quincy, MA.

Thomas was tight-lipped but excited about the event.

“The fans will have to wait and see what I have in store, and I’ll have to wait to see their reaction. But it’s going to be awesome,” Thomas says of the NECW event in Quincy.

Thomas is fresh off an appearance on “The Figure Four Daily,” a very popular Internet radio show about wrestling, hosted by pro grappler Bryan Alvarez. Thomas appeared on September 8.

“’Figure Four Daily’ is a major wrestling talk show,” Thomas said when asked about his appearance. “It’s really big, and I’m proud to be a part of it now.”

For more information about the SLI and its mission, visit www.sportslegacy.org.

For more information about the NECW event on September 19, visit www.NECWrestling.com.

For interview requests involving “The Promise” Antonio Thomas and information about appearances, contact Shannon Rose at (813) 960-8412, (813) 389-0801, or info@mediaproductions.tv.

###

ABOUT “THE PROMISE” ANTONIO THOMAS

Antonio Thomas began his training at the late great Killer Kowalski’s briefly in 2001 before continuing his training under longtime New England standout Kevin Landry.

Antonio made his professional debut in late 2001 before emerging throughout the New England area shortly thereafter working regularly for top promotions including New England Championship Wrestling, Chaotic Wrestling, and Eastern Wrestling Alliance.

Thomas was called up to WWE Raw in April 2005 where he became one half of the re-named “Heart Throbs” and where he produced memorable feuds with William Regal and Tajiri, Hurricane and Rosey, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, Val Venis and Viscera.

After parting ways with the WWE in February 2006, Thomas became busier than ever, returning to work numerous promotions throughout the Country, as well as going back to where it all began for him on the New England scene, reuniting with Bradley and his WFA, Sheldon Goldberg’s New England Championship Wrestling, and Chaotic Wrestling, among numerous of others.

Antonio performed in shows for TNA in 2007, including Destination X Pay-Per-View in March against Voodoo Kin Mafia-Kip and B.G. James as well as touring for Nu-Wrestling Evolution (NWE) in Europe.

In May 2009, Antonio won the prestigious NECW Iron 8 Tournament. Winning the Iron 8, defeating some of the best in professional wrestling today, takes Thomas to the next level and proves to the world that he is the future of professional wrestling.

In addition to a hectic and busy wrestling schedule, Thomas is a lifelong workout and fitness enthusiast in addition to being a certified personal trainer, working his way towards an eventual Masters Degree in Exercise Science and Strength and Conditioning.

The Katz Files – Arnie Katz
Nobody Asked Me (about TNA) , But…
The Kingfish Arnie Katz continues a “Katz Files” tradition with answers to off-the-wall questions that no one asked him and some observations about things that stuck in his mind as he watched a whole lot of wrestling.iMPACT ratings dip exactly what you expected? The 9/4 episode was the first good one in about three weeks – and the ratings work by momentum. A bad show one week hurts the rating of the following week’s program. Unfortunately, it isn’t quite as easy to get those people back with a good show, because they have stopped watching the show and won’t return until, and unless, they hear intriguing word-of-mouth.

I was watching wrestling this week and…

… Doesn’t TNA have to regret starting that dumb feud between Madison Rayne and her two former partners? They’d probably love to just plug her into the beautiful people until Angelina Love can return. They may do it anyway.

… Isn’t the recent TNA

… didn’t the Four-way Gauntlet match raise the status of the British Invasion? Even though the other teams can dismiss it as a fluky win due to the way they booked the finish, buy it also gives the Brits some bragging right. Since fans perceive them as the least of the four major teams, anything that gives them the upper hand makes their matches seem more competitive.

… Isn’t it time for TNA to decide whether to keep Raisha Saeed as a character or go with Alissa Flash? She’s good in either role (or as Cheerleader Melissa), but it would be better if she didn’t have to do double duty.

… weren’t you glad when Matt Morgan finally went face by helping Styles and Daniels win and then dropping Angle with the Hellavator? They’ll probably drag it out until No Surrender, even though they shouldn’t.

… the Homicide swerve made so much sense that it almost didn’t seem like a true surprise. LAX is done, at least for now, so TNA needs to find a new role for the very valuable talent, Homicide. (The plans for Hernandez are included in plans for the main event group.)

That’s all for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with a fresh installment of the Internet’s fastest-rising wrestling column. I hope you’ll join me then – and, please, bring your friends. A few doughnuts would be nice, too.
