WRESTLING COLUMNS

The Long Hard Rhodes for TNA
December 11, 2004 by Brian Bertrand

Well, well, well! It's good to see some people remembered me after a while. Before I get started I would like to announce that I will be training at the illustrious APW Boot Camp starting January 9th and Online World of Wrestling shall be the home of my journal for the next year or so. Anyways, on with the show...

As you may know "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes has become the new head booker for TNA. Now while this is good for some storylines, the backstage reaction is known to be a mixed bunch. And with the issue regarding Panda Energy's impatience my nails are getting bit for the future of the still fresh product. It's becoming apparent that TNA is having a bit of a hard time keeping up with their current situation now that they lost about $1.5 million in over confidence.

I believe the TNA product is still strong even when Macho Man is getting paranoid because of Hulk Hogan's ghost and Hall, Nash, and Jarrett's nWo ressurection in the form of the Kings of Wrestling. But there are still some great things happening in TNA that can still draw a crowd. The X-Division still has great talent and so does the Tag Division and just the simply non-title Heavyweight contenders. Raven, DDP, and so many others are still fun things to watch wrestle all over the course of TNA's run. It's still a great look as far as wrestling and a good number of storylines. But with the current financial situation along with Dusty's new found ego we can only hope they can stay afloat. Another factor that's giving me the shivers is Dustin Rhodes. The guy has been away from pro wrestling for quite some time and from what the news said he has been gaining some ring rust after some works. Can Goldust make a big comeback and make an impact in TNA? When you think about problems within TNA what comes up in your head? Jeff Jarret, of course! You gotta think now that the target on his back has gotten just a little bit bigger but in actuality it's actually gotten smaller. I mean now the only guys that are gunning him are pretty much Johnny Devine (since he's the only member of Team Canada without gold) and Monty Brown (since he has more of a chance anyways). I think since Johnny Devine is going after Jarret, The Outsiders should take it upon themselves to have a tag title match against Eric Young and Bobby Rude because it makes the most sense and it gives fans a pretty good match.

With Final Resolution not too far off, TNA should really think about finding more and more ways of fixing their foundation because I love seeing these guys work. I just hope they stop putting on jobber matches on Impact! since they are obviously putting it as more of a flagship instead of their weekly ppv's. And with that being said more and more possibilities can be made as long as they begin to fix themselves.

From what I see I think TNA won't have much problem with that because they are still a hot product with fans and can still deliever with their pay-per-views. The matches are still decent and the talent is still fresh especially in the likes of Christopher Daniels, Elix Skipper, AMW, Raven, DDP, and a lot of others. And I love the ways they are boosting them by the week. Let's hope they stay right where they are and not get watered down.
