WRESTLING COLUMNS
Into the light & Breaking Down The Barriers
February 20, 2004 by Chris Chambers

In some of my other columns I have bashed sheep, I didn't bash to be cruel, I
mainly did it to scare them straight or "Scared Straight" type of thing. In this
column, instead of focusing on the negativity on the sheep I am gonna shed the
light and bring them into the light and maybe just maybe they will understand
what the smart fans are talking about. Also in this column, I am gonna write
about the small guys breaking down the barriers and becoming stars and reaching
championship status.

I am gonna start on bringing the sheep into the light. I think the biggest
reason why the sheep doesn't understand what true wrestling is, is because they
have been manipulated and brainwashed by Vince McMahon and all the propaganda he
has thrown out to the fans. Through the years the sheep just cheered the good
guys and boo'ed the bad guys and overlooked the wrestlers talent and potential
in the ring. There is a huge list of wrestlers that fans just took it to the
extreme and became obsessed with being a huge sheep type fan of the certain
superstar. The first guy that comes to mind is Ultimate Warrior. This guy only
had one good thing and that was his promos and his talent was not even close to
mediocrity. Ultimate Warrior is one of the wrestlers that all the propaganda got
into the heads of the fans and turned them ''brain dead". Vince McMahon wanted
someone to be just as big as Hulk Hogan but Vince knew if he could come up with
a certain character he could brainwash the fans into believing that Ultimate
Warrior was an actual good wrestler. I will have to admit that I did indeed like
two of Warriors matches and that was Warrior versus Macho Man at SummerSlam 1992
and Warrior versus Hulk Hogan WM6. Other than that I do not see why the fans
would like Warrior. Vince McMahon and all the propaganda is the main reason why
theres many sheep today. One last wrestler IMO, that has caused the most and I
do mean most sheep is GOLDBERG. The reason I do not like Goldberg or Goldberg
sheep is that the mind frame Goldberg fans have. Goldberg sheep just like to say
that Goldberg is the best wrestler ever and they have the audasity to say
Goldberg is better than guys like Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit,
Chris Jericho, ect. I would personally like to thank Vince McMahon for
re-creating and re-vamping Goldberg sheep (very sarcasticly). Goldbergs problem
is not that hes a bad wrestler, its because he is his own problem, his rise is
what cost him any credibility of being a great wrestler. Goldberg for his style
of wrestling (brawling and power) is pretty good but his too soon of a push in
WCW is what cost him of any credibility of being a good wrestler in true
wrestling fans minds. The Goldberg sheep needs to realize that Goldberg is not
as good as they think. They need to take all the propaganda that Vince put out
and just forget it and come into the light and see how stupid they have been. I
think that this is enough to get all the sheep to understand what true wrestling
fans are saying when the true fans say that all the propaganda that Vince spews
out is just not good to digest and believe in.
Now I am gonna write about the small guys breaking down the barriers and
proving themselves. Throughout the history of the business the motto was "If you
aren't big, then you aren't the champion". Well for that time period that motto
was understandable and it was the right way to think in that time period. Guys
like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, Ric Flair, ect....were the
marketable and the main guys to hold the strap and only guys like those were
suppose to hold the strap. However, I do not think that you can honestly say
that guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, ect....(at that time small guys)
didn't deserve to be the champion. Vince McMahon has the attitude that he only
wants big guys as champions and only big guys. Whether they were talented or not
it didn't matter Vince McMahon had a "hard on" for big guys to hold the strap.
Over the years, Vince just spewed and spewed that same garbage to all the fans
and he got all the fans to believe in that. All the fans just accepted the
garbage and ingested the garbage Vince spewed and overlooked the talent of the
smaller guys. The smaller guys were held down years after years after years
before they were even looked at to hold a mid card title. The smaller guys that
I am talking about is guys like Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho,
Lance Storm, ect....these guys have been overlooked for years and its quite
stupid IMO. Just because they are small doesn't mean that they aren't
championship material. The main reason the smaller guys were overlooked was
because of the same garbage Vince spewed out and that is "Big Guys Only" for
being labeled championship material. The one man that finally broke through the
barrier was Eddie Guerrero when he defeated Brock Lesnar at No Way Out 2004. The
same smart fans that have ingested the garbage Vince McMahon spewed out said
that Eddie isn't and wasn't championship material but I have news for ya Eddie
Guerrero proved you wrong. As for the fans who thought or thinks that guys like
Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Jericho, ect....are only good for being
transitional champions are also wrong and have also swallowed alot of the
garbage Vince spewed out. On SD Eddie said it perfectly, "This Sunday, My
Victory will be for the people who were told that they were to small, not strong
enough, not good looking enough to prevail". Eddie Guerrero is definitely and
has definitely proven that he doesn't apply to the "Big Guys Only" just to be
championship material. I appreciate day in and day out what Eddie has done and
Chris Benoit done and other small guys has done for the business and for their
career. I know some fans might bash me for saying that small guys are
championship material but all I can say to them is "Wake Up McFly" (haha Back To
The Future reference has finally been used). Smaller Guys if given the chance
can prove themselves, they can do so and they can show Vince McMahon that the
garbage hes been spewing out is completely stupid. The promos and the ads for
WM20 have been saying "WM20 Where It All Begins Again". I think this is the only
chance for Vince McMahon to turn everything around and start over on a clean
slate and just tear down the size barrier.
