WRESTLING COLUMNS

Can You Feel The Bang"
October 28, 2006 by Edward Wise

Editor's Notes: You may have noticed that there are multiple columns up on the website about the rumored return of Degeration-X. If you read a column (ANY column) and decide to send in feedback, PLEASE be sure to indicate which column you are responding to by typing the TITLE of the column in the subject line. Also, DO NOT FORGET to sign your name. Thanks!

One of the greatest wrestlers in the history of WCW undoubtedly has to be Diamond Dallas Page. Diamond Dallas Page is known better by his three initials, DDP. He's a guy whom many believed didn't have what it took early on in his wrestling career.

Despite those who had little faith in DDP he managed to make it to the very top of the sports entertainment/wrestling business. Don't get me wrong, some had faith but for a long time Page was used as a manager and it took time to get where he got. He made his debut in 1991 as a wrestler. It was always a passion of his, he wanted it and he was hungry for it.

Page became one of WCW's biggest stars in the late 1990's. DDP made his way to the top primarily because of one reason. That one reason was hard work. He was determined and loved what he did. He wasn't in it to please the company, although I'm sure the company was happy with him. DDP was in it for the fans. During his time in WCW DDP held wrestling's top prize in the World Heavyweight Championship on three occasions. He was nicknamed "the people's champion" by many.

I have found that many forget a lot of what DDP did and that's a real shame in my view. On the internet there is a source that I feel is great, www.myspace.com/number1fansite. It's a DDP tribute page. I am glad to see this because what DDP accomplished must never be forgotten. Fans won't forget what Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan did; DDP has had that type of impact on me and many others I am sure. He's been out of wrestling for a while now and many have no idea what he has been up to.

As many of you may know, injuries and that type of thing left Page with no choice but to leave the business he loved, the wrestling business. I'm sure that hurt him very much. DDP found something after wrestling though. He found Yoga, he liked the concept and it worked for him. DDP is the creator of a workout called YRG. That stands for, "Yoga for Regular Guys". DDP is a regular guy, he really is. He's a three time WCW Champion and is a larger than life figure to myself and many others but still a regular guy. Being champion didn't change him, it made him better. With this program he claims he's in better shape now than he's been in a long time.

On his Myspace account which he writes on often, www.myspace.com/yrgworkout DDP has made notion that a return to wrestling in 2007 is in his plans. That's the future of DDP. It's his workout that has made him capable of going into a ring again.

If you follow DDP now on his official website, www.diamonddallaspage.com he is always posting new information about YRG and it's usefulness. I just wonder how good DDP will be when he gets back into a wrestling ring again. It can't be bad because I have followed DDP and am well aware of the impact YRG has had on him. He has helped many people, there are numerous stories out there and he's helped himself. I just can't wait to see DDP again... The King of Badda Bing, Badda Boom, Badda BANG!!!

Hey Edward, nice article on a guy that most have forgotten about, and hopefully we'll see him in the ring again, as long as his body doesn't look like Ric Flair or Dusty Rhodes. Good Lord. The great thing about DDP is that he made everybody else look good at his expense, that's why everybody liked him. He took an ass kicking and always fought back, against all odds, worked hard, and never gave up. He was one of us, he was who we wanted to be, that's why we liked him. My friends and I that always watched wrestling together years ago had a saying about DDP, "All he does well is take an ass kicking!". He would get his butt whipped for 10 or 15 minutes, pull a diamond cutter out of no where, and pin someone, that was his matches, to a tee. Which, when I look at it now, wasn't really an insult like we intended it to be. He was one of a kind that was willing to make others around him look good and look strong. Wish there were more like that now. Wish there were more like that in WCW at that time, it would still be around now. But, that's a whole nother article to be written. It would definitely be great to see him coming out of the crowd again. Maybe someday! Glad to see someone hasn't forgotten about DDP. Thanks Edward.

Wow kid this was the worst column I have ever read! IN no where in your column did you talk about any matches, feuds or hell real facts! This was like a ad for myspace account you poor lush on society! You should really get some facts before you write on a website called Online World of Wrestling!

P.S Hard work didn't get DDP to where he was! Blowin Eric Bischoff did.

The best thing about DDP in WCW was his wife! She is beautiful! DDP was decent, however his gimmick was a little lame to me. " Feel the BANG!", the Diamond Cutter (Stone Cold Stunner) and even the diamond hand signal (Jay Z's Rockafella records sign..) were all unexciting to me. To be honest he would come out there and waste a lot of airtime.

Kyle Haynie...you are one of the most obnoxious, ignorant people I've ever seen post on here. I've seen you reply to a lot of posts and you never make any points except to attempt to berate the writer and show pure ignorance the entire time you do it. At least some of the people that berate the writers on here show at least a smidgen of intelligence. I'm surprised you can even type a complete sentence.

But in any case...Wise, it's a decent article you've written here. You're completely right. In a lot of ways, DDP is overlooked or completely forgotten about, even though he put a lot of heart and soul into this business. If he's serious about making a return in 2007, I can't wait to see it, cause he's one of the single most hardest working workers out there and deserved every titleshot he ever got.

DDP made wcw great i liked him i think just as much as you do I also liked the NWO Just as much as any WCW fan.. I think WCW's sprit lives on with TNA they have a few big names Of the stars of WCW. just think of it as a different form.. I really hope they get to last as long a WCW maybe even longer there could be a new war between companys they just need to quit trading Talent so offten... But the war would be good for both companys i think.. but anyway Good article i would like too see more about WCW.
