WRESTLING COLUMNS

The Stars Of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla
February 15, 2006 by Mike Hartnell

My name is Mike and I've been watching wrestling for about nine years now. Throughout this span of being a wrestling fan, I've had the privilege to watch some of the world's finest competitors in some of the best wrestling promotions in the world. I've watched WWE, WCW, TNA, ROH, NJPW, AJPW and a countless amount of others, but no wrestling federation has caught my eye the same way Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is promoted by the six wrestlers known as the PWG 6. They are as follows: Super Dragon, Excalibur, Disco Machine, Joey Ryan, Scott Lost and Topgun Talwar. These six wrestlers have provided the Southern California independent scene with some of the best wrestling around.

PWG brings in some of the best independent wrestlers in the United States. AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, Jack Evans, James Gibson, Chris Sabin, Petey Williams and Frankie Kazarian - just to name a few. But they aren't the wrestlers that catch my eye when I go to PWG shows. The wrestlers I find myself marking out for are the ones not really nationally known, but the lesser-known names. I'd like to take a moment and give credit to the stars that truly make PWG the great wrestling promotion it is.

"Photogenic" Chris Bosh - He's got to be one of the funniest wrestlers I've ever seen. Always bringing in laughs when he's on the microphone. On top of that, he's great in the ring. He's been using the Screwdriver as a finisher lately and it complements his arsenal of moves so well.

"The Technical Wizard" Joey Ryan - "Who wants a mustache ride!"" You're guaranteed to hear Joey shout that out at every show he's on. He's the current PWG Champion and it doesn't look like he'll lose the belt anytime soon, because he's always got a way to get the cheap victory every time.

Super Dragon - He's got to be the most intense wrestler I've ever seen. He's one half of the PWG Tag Team Champions with his equally intense partner, Davey Richards. Super Dragon is the master of brutality, boasting insane moves like the Curb Stomp, and the Psycho Driver.

"Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen - The man has to be good if he's going to use the moniker "Mr. Wrestling." The former PWG Champion put on some classic bouts, which included successful defenses against Chris Bosh, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. He performs one of the best Moonsaults in the business and his Package Piledriver is a surefire way to put his opponents away.

Davey Richards - He and Super Dragon currently hold the PWG Tag Team Championship. They've been brutalizing all challengers left and right. Richards has some of the stiffest kicks I've ever seen in my entire life, half the time they sound more like a Ric Flair chop than a kick to the chest or back. The Shooting Star Press and Tiger Driver are some of Davey's favorite ways to gain a victory over his foe.

"The Generic Luchadore" El Generico - Simply put, El Generico is amazing. He goes out night after night and always entertains. He isn't a man of very many words, well actually, just one word "Ol!" He executes some daring planchas to the outside each night and always keeps bringing it. His opponents better look out for the running Yakuza kick in the corner and the patented "BRAINBUSTAAAH!!!" onto the top turnbuckle.

Well, there you have it, the wrestlers who I feel make Pro Wrestling Guerrilla the great promotion it really is. If you live around the Hollywood area I suggest you check them out, because I guarantee these guys are the future of wrestling.
