The Insane Clown Posse: Hated For No Reason
July 15, 2006 by Mike Stelzner

Editor's Notes: There are lots of columns posted on various topics, and sometimes there are multiple columns with similar topics. If you read a column (ANY column) and decide to send in feedback, PLEASE be sure to indicate which column you are responding to by typing the TITLE of the column in the subject line. Also, DO NOT FORGET to sign your name. Thanks!

Before I start this column, I know I am going to get a lot of heat for standing behind the Insane Clown Posse or "ICP" as some know them. I also want to make a few things clear. Yes, I am a "juggalos." No, I am not obsessed with ICP. No, ICP are not the best around. Yes, they do have talent.

Let's take things back to the days when ICP had joined WCW. They started in a group called "The Dead Pool" with superstars Vampiro and Raven. Obviously, if they had no talent, like many suggest, would Raven or Vampiro agree to work with them and risk looking like idiots" Then Eric Bischoff got his panties in a bunch about things and had Goldberg repeatedly beat up ICP for no reason before they quit/he fired them. All I can say is, Insane Clown Posse did the right thing.

Then we had the little Ring Of Honor mishap, where they were booed out of the building. I wanted to punch every member of the crowd in the face. Here they were booing these stars and telling them "don't come back" after ICP had put on a decent show. I was thinking "what the hell is going on here""

People may argue and say that ICP doesn't look good in any of the televised matches. That's true, but whose fault is that, ICP's or the creative team"If anyone watches the JCW (Juggalo Championsh*t Wrestling) DVDs (which, I'm sad to say, are more about the hilarious commentary then the wrestling) you'll see the "Wicked Clowns" pulling off wild moves, great spots, and entertaining matches. I love watching Violent J perform the 80's style hip tosses after getting "the hot tag."

The final thing that makes me mad is how people don't understand how much ICP loves wrestling. Shaggy 2 Dope, a member of the group, once had to wrestle many of his matches with a neck brace, after an injury. Some wrestlers would take a break. Did Shaggy" No, he didn't leave Violent J high and dry, he wrestled. Insane Clown Posse even had to cancel a few concerts after Shaggy off a cage and broke his jaw, requiring it to be wired shut. People love how John Cena raps, but these guys were rapping when Cena was a still in OVW. That's another thing that makes me very mad, how people love Cena but hate ICP. Every year at "the Gathering of the Juggalos," a 3-day-long festival hosted by ICP, Cena had made a few appearances, wrestling in JCW matches, and even taking the stage with ICP and doing variations of their songs.

In conclusion, please give the Insane Clown Posse a chance. They have reportedly stated that they will be returning to TNA this summer, so tune in, watch them wrestle and make your own opinion. If you still hate them, fine, if you change your mind, fine. Either way, give the Wicked Clowns their dues for having the passion to be in a business that rarely gives them love, just so they can wrestle and entertain fans.

First of all i would like to state that I too am a juggalo. And i assume u write this becasue The Gathering of the Juggalos just past. No for the John Cena thing, he would get booed out the Gathering so i don't know exactly where you heard that from. Now with the JCW there is a major reason why ICP aren't respect, they half-assed everything. I mean there isn't even a website with a roster. Their wrestling is alright, i have seen worst. And they do have more passion that anyone else today. The problem is the have a reputation, that reputaion got them booed at the ROH. I know their "gimic" really isn't a gimic but to wrestling fan....it would be considered one. But one thing that makes me made is that Jamie Madrox (from Twiztid) doesn't get into wrestling as a manager casue he cuts promos from online events that are funny, and everything he does is improv, when he messes up he still makes you laugh. Over all ICP would get more respect if they focused on wrestling. One can't tour and wrestle....did john cena have a rap tour no....

I kinda agree. Except i think ICP are one of the best things around music wise. As wrestlers they arn't the most talented, but they are entertaining, and devoted. ICP have been rapping since before Cena was in OVW, they've been going since about 1989, first as the JJ boys which was a tri with Shaggys brother. then as Inner City Posse . Can't be bothered given the whole history. Jake McDowell

I know this dosent' have to do with wrestling, but ICP sucks as a group. I'm pretty sure you're one of those white trash people.

i agree completely. ICP is one of the most unrecognized musicians and wrestlers of all time and thats why some people love them even more. The people don't get it, they are like ECW, countercultural, and have the loyal cult-like fans as Juggalos which i am. One of the reasons why they were even recognized to wrestle is because of the publicity stunt with the Disney label throwing them off and taking off there album the day it came out and the controversy with it. Vampiro and Raven are even listeners of ICP, and Sabu, the late Chris Candido, Balls Mohoney, Sunny, and even legends like Dory and Terry Funk, Greg Valentine, Brutus Beefcake, Honkey Tonk Man, and Ricky Morton have participated in JCW shows. Another thing, Juggalo Championshit Wrestling is NOT disrespectful! its an organization that signifies that they do there own thing just like any other entertainer does and proving that they have a passion for more things other than music and making sure that they don't become puppets of the industry again.

There great entertainers and should have another chance, it would probably be a great idea for WWE, ECW, or TNA to be more creative on production and characters. They would be a perfect fit in ECW as far as violent content and foul language and attitude goes. Promos would be no problem for them at all. So yeah GIVE ICP ANOTHER CHANCE!!!! WOOP WOOP!!!

First off, Jose, let me make something clear: if you want to be taken seriously, name calling and stereotypes are not the way to do it. Yes, I am caucasian. However, I am not "white trash." I live in a middle-upper class town in a two story house. My parents are together, both with steady jobs, making money. I don't smoke dope or drink. I'm 15 and straight edge. I like the Insane Clown Posse and am a proud Juggalo. I think they have done very well from a wrestling stand-point, yet the only audience that has truely appreciated them is TNA. In ROH, they were told not to show their talent, so they would look like "rappers trying to wrestle" which is wrong. In WWF and WCW, it was pretty much the same situation. It wasn't until they created their own federation and joined TNA that they began showing their skills. They are incredibly charismatic speakers, witty, and have more talent and passion than many superstars today (Heidenreich who was fired, Snitsky, Mike Knox, ect.). The fact that Violent J, who is about 200 pounds, does moonsaults perfectly and other high flying moves shows they are also athletically fit enough to be wrestlers. SO next time, please try to back up your claims with evidence

First off I would like to point out that ICP didn't join Vampiro and RAVEN. They joined Vampiro and the Great Muta and later on the Demon and they were known as the Dark Carnival, not the Dead Pool. Their first stint in wrestling was with the Oddities with the Giant Silva, Luna Vahon, and Golga. In both WWF and WCW they were booed out because of the fact that they sucked.

This goes waaaaaaay back to my old column about why I hate Backyard Wrestling. ICP is just that, yard tards. It's one of those things that independant fans and mainstream fans can agree on because they can't wrestle. JCW is also a glorified BYW and many people can see that. I'm not surprised that you or any of the other "juggalos" don't see that. The only way they can get any kind of money is only if TNA or WWE can hire them for a short run but they end up getting fired shortly after announcing their new album because once they do that they don't care about any type of wrestling after that.

Wrestling fans have a huge reason to hate ICP. They're not wrestlers, they're rappers and yard tards. They don't adapt to the mianstream wrestling and they get booed and released soon after. They think that makes the cool so they made their own Backyard fed to think that they can be a huge fed and yet the only news thats on their website is Violent J and Rude Boy going to River City Wrestling...not Juggalo Championsh*t Wrestling. There seems to be a lack of JCW shows since the only one being scheduled is for their Gathering of the Juggalos event. Seems like the bookers (ICP themselves) have better crap to do than become wrestling promoters.

Don't get me wrong, they make some great music and do some great interviews. But when it comes to wrestling, they're yard tards! I had to win an argument with my boy Kyle at the APW Garage about this. They're yard tards and should stay away from WWE, TNA, ROH, and ECW because they will just get booed out of the building completely and would kill a lot of each companie's ratings just like they did in the past.

ICP were indeed in a faction called "the Dead pool" with Raven and Vampiro. It's on this website. You can check it. The Dark Carnival was formed afterwards. Yes, I do agree, JCW isn't as good as people say. The first DVD was well.... embarassing in my opinion. However, the third volume was actual wrestling, which was good. As for them being "yard tards", then why has TNA bothered to bring them back so often" They are enjoyed by the fans and must have some talent. They both work great together, have excellent in-ring chemistry, and can indeed pull off good matches. In WCW they weren't liked because they were way off the mainstream. In WWE they were barely used. Remember the potential Tomko had" I know lots of people who said he sucked because he was rarely used and put in the wrong storylines. Same goes for ICP. They have the potential. However, I do agree about the CD part. ICP does half ass and constantly go back and forth between music and wrestling, but what about the Rock" How many times has he claimed to be back only to not show up on television for a year" If that's not half assing, what is" By the way, to everyone who has sent in intelligent feedback, positive or negative, thank you. I'm glad we didn't have to resort to "OMG ICP SUXX!!!! YOUR A LOZER TO LIEK THEM!1!!!"
