WRESTLING COLUMNS

The "Haas" Of Pain
April 28, 2006 by Stephen Carlson

My name is Stephen Carlson and this is my first article for this site, but hopefully it won't be my last. Last week on my favorite night of the week on my favorite show, WWE Monday Night RAW, I was treated to one of the best matches (and quite possibly the best surprise) that I've seen on a wrestling card ever.

Shelton Benjamin was set to face a wrestler of Rob Van Dam's choice with the stipulation that if Shelton wins he gets a shot at the "Money in the Bank" contract at WWE Backlash, but if he loses he would have to put up his Intercontinental title up instead. I was listening to the Coach's surprisingly good ring announcing while waiting in suspense in to who might be the wrestler.

To be honest with you I was almost positive it was going to be Ric Flair but much to my surprise Charlie Haas' music played through the arena. I commenced to jump up and scream like a little girl and before I knew it the match was underway.

I would like to treat you with some background knowledge on me as a WWE fan. My favorite tag team ever was "The World's Greatest Tag Team" which consisted of none other than the two men that were fighting in the ring, Haas and Benjamin. And when I heard Haas was let go I looked to Benjamin as my favorite superstar.

Anyway, back to the story. After I sat back down I watched in awe as Charlie Haas was continually overpowering and out-wrestling Shelton (which isn't easy to do). Finally Shelton got in the drivers seat and started taking it to Haas in his normal heel fashion. You know the deal - bashing against the steps - when I noticed he was starting to get cocky. He started mocking RVD with a rolling thunder and then started out a 5 star frog splash which Haas avoided. Benjamin saw the move and rolled out of it and went to go pick up Haas in the corner when he was rolled up and Haas picked up the upset win.

It wasn't a very long match, but in the six or so minutes it went on I felt uncontrollable joy that could only be rivalled by Shawn Michaels return to the now. I also walked away from that match with a satisfied feeling knowing that the two most athletic performers in the WWE just gave one hell of a fight. And it turned out to be better then any other match on the whole card.

well it wasnt a great match but it was pretty good and it felt good to know that the WWE has a backup plan for when Benoit and others leave for TNA. Charlie Haas deserves all the joy and congrats in the world because the WWE was looking to take a chance on him again. They failed in their first attempt to get him over by putting him in cheesy storylines with Dawn Marie and Miss Jackie(his wife) we all know what happens when the WWE tries to make storylines involving couples and they usually bring a high profile character down. Take HHH for example, Stephanie was always with him no matter what and he won matches but wasnt the competitor he is now. he was always caring after steph when she got hurt which costed him the match. Yeah he won his first 5 or 6 titles while steph was at ringside but he wasnt really that good of a competitor then. After they killed that storyline, he got more aggressive and violent and now look hes loved by the fans and working on his 11th WWE world title. all im saying is that the WWE killed a spectacular talent in Charile Haas early on in his career. Sure they made him accomplish what the british bulldog did by winning every major title except for the WWE title but hes so much greater than that. I hope that this time the WWE makes a storyline that involves Haas working his way up to WWE title contention because hes just that good, or at least get him over enough so he can go to TNA and shine. The reason why Haas came back to the WWE was because he had no interest from any other wrestling promotions or businesses. TNA didnt even want him, so he came back to the WWE as a chance to get over in his career to superstar status

I 2 was a huge "Worlds Greatest Tag Team" Fan I believe their chemistry was only topped buy Hoss's own brother Russ. I also believe that a return of the team is in need, the tag teams on raw suck and we need someone to hold the titles that acually are talented enough and also believable "Spirit Squad" my god what is the "WWE" coming 2
