Pro Wrestling: Hart Family Steps Out Of The Shadows
Jarrod Rogol
July 2, 2007

Fans of pro wrestling have felt for many years that being part of the industry is such a wonderful thing. Although fans are told about a lot of things surrounding wrestlers and their families, not everything is released publicly. There have been many high profile families with names such as DiBiase, Funk, Von Erich, Anderson, Orton, Brisco, Guerrero, Rhodes, and Flair, just to name a few. One other major and perhaps most legendary family in wrestling is the Hart family. Julie Hart and former husband Bret “Hitman” Hart have four kids: Jade, Dallas, Beans, and Blade. For the first time ever, all four kids joined Julie to discuss the family, current ventures, and wrestling, in order to step out of the shadows.

FAMILY
JR: What was the best rib ever pulled on you or a family member?
Jade: When Dallas was six or seven, he got a sliver in his foot and my dad couldn’t find tweezers so he brought a big butcher knife out of the kitchen and told him he’d have to use it to get the sliver out.

JR: What was the best rib ever pulled on you?
Dallas: HBK, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and I would have creamer fights (the little packs of milk used with coffee) in the locker room area at events. One time when they came to Calgary, I didn’t know they were in town and my dad asked me to come play outside. When he opened the door, HBK, Hall, and Nash started shooting me with Super Soakers. They chased me all over the house.
* Blade’s favorite locker room moment was being involved in the fights as well. He said HBK, Hall, and Nash used coffee in the Super Soakers.

JR: Blade has always seemed to be the one who’d follow the family business. Do you see him going into the industry or do you see him playing in the NHL?
Julie: I do see Blade making it in the industry at some point. He has the heart for the business.

JR: What is the best story Stu ever told you?
Jade (Laughs): My father keeping Owen’s belly button in his pocket.

JR: What things did you find helped the kids cope with Bret being gone and what advice would you give parents who maybe are in a similar situation where one parent is absent a lot due to work?
Julie: The big thing with our family was keeping each kid involved in what they liked. For example, Dallas is totally into the outdoors and Blade was in Judo lessons.

JR: What was it like growing up a Hart?
Jade: We lived as normal of lives as possible. During school, we didn’t really face a lot of hard times because of the name. People didn’t really seem to care as much as most would think. The best part was the number of family members.

Dallas: Having the name wasn’t really a problem. Sometimes fans would ask questions like “Have you ever been put in a Sharpshooter”? But, for the most part, being a Hart is just a bonus. One of the good things is that you get to meet so many people because of the large family.

Beans: We had and still have real friends because our dad never came to our school for appearances. It really was pretty normal and we had friends who liked us for us and not because they thought we were rich.

Blade: It’s a circus, each of us has traits from mom and dad. In school, everyone knew who we were so we had a lot of people be really nice to us, same with the community.

CURRENT VENTURES
JR: How has it been writing a book with Michelle and when should fans except to see it on shelves?
Julie: My story was going to end at the Hall of Fame seeing Bret getting inducted, but due to politics, I didn’t attend and ended up missing the submission deadline. The next submission deadline is in September, so it wouldn’t be out before then. Working with Michelle has been great, and I feel the book is going to be even better.

JR: What is the For the Love of Children Society of Alberta and how are you involved?
Julie: I’m the overseas coordinator and have been with it since 1997. Each year, I travel overseas about two times for different projects. The society assists children in need from the homeless and abused to children with learning disabilities in every corner of the world.

JR: What is The World Peace Conference?
Julie: TWPC is an event where different figures come and discuss world peace and how to reach that by creating a unified vision for peace, identifying barriers, etc. I wasn’t able to stay the whole time, because Beans was upset that I was going to miss her birthday party for the first time in 19 years, so I ended up flying back to Calgary and missed hearing Gandhi’s grandson speak.

Jade and Beans: We seriously want to get into the wrestling industry. We’ve talked to Lance Storm about training with him and then there are a few things we are thinking of doing in the coming months in regards to wrestling. We’ve also talked about doing some sort of reality television, showing what it takes to get into the business.

Dallas: Right now, I’m doing contract work such as painting and landscaping. I also love being outdoors rafting and playing other sports like basketball, tennis, and hockey.

Beans: Right now, I work in a hair salon.

Blade: I’m going to school and I’ll probably work with my brother this summer.

JR: Wrestling Career vs. Hockey. What will it be?
Blade: Well, I’d choose hockey over wrestling anytime. I grew up on the ice, but wrestling is a much better opportunity. I am going to get into training and see what happens.

WRESTLING
Julie: Recently, I was able to go over to Israel for Gery Roif’s promotion Israeli Pro Wrestling Association (IPWA). Seeing the respect the workers and fans have there for the industry was a great time. The appearance was to help raise money for orphanages in conjunction with my charity “For the Love of Children Society.” I’d really like to thank IPWA for their wonderful hospitality and showmanship and I wish them all the best in the future.

JR: Being from a technical style wrestling family, do you prefer technical or “new school”?
Julie: Teddy Hart is a perfect example of what I like. Some of my other favorites include Dynamite Kid and Randy Savage. I’d have to say I lean more towards the “high flying and high impact,” as opposed to the technical, mainly because I can’t figure out a story through moves, which is why the technical style works.

JR: How did you feel being at the WWE Hall of Fame?
Jade: It was great being there for my dad. We all knew he deserved it and it was great seeing him receive the honor. Also, a funny thing happened backstage. When I was really young, Sensational Sherri gave me her wedding ring, which I wore to the Hall of Fame this year and it was the first time I’d seen her since then. At first she didn’t fully remember me, but after my dad introduced her to me, she remembered and thought it was neat that I still had the ring.

JR: What is your favorite memory of your dad in and out of the ring?
Dallas: The “Old School” when they wore the blue and black with aviator sunglasses. Outside of the ring I’d say meeting everyone at the Hall of Fame.

JR: What are your favorite Hart involved and non-Hart involved match that you ever saw?
Beans: WM 13 my dad against Stone Cold Steve Austin and favorite non-Hart involved match would be Batista turning on Evolution.

Blade: My dad against HBK in the Iron Man Match and for the non-Hart involved match I’d say WrestleMania 23’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match because Mr. Kennedy is so funny.

OTHER
JR: If you could choose how people think of you what would you want them to think?
Julie: I don’t want to be identified for wrestling. My feeling is that I am myself and hope that people would find me more interesting for who I am than for what I was associated with.

JR: What is the biggest misconception about the Hart family?
Beans: That my dad is this big tough mean person. In reality, he has a huge heart and is very funny and kind.

CLOSING THOUGHTS
Julie: Life is so precious. My children and the children of the world are the future.
Jade: Family is the most important thing in the world.
Dallas: Judging others quickly can cause problems.
Beans: My mom has the biggest heart in world and kindness is often mistaken for weakness.
Blade: The Harts are making a comeback.

RAPID FIRE
Julie
Stu Hart: My hero and my greatest teacher in the kitchen.
Bruce Hart: Prime example of someone who lives the Stu Hart philosophy in life.
Steve Austin: Quiet, and I remember him coming over for a few BBQ’s when the boys were in town.
Harley Race: Warm and kind hearted.
Miss Elizabeth: Sweet.

Jade
Stephanie McMahon: Wrestling’s baby girl.
Sensational Sherri: One of the kindest people I ever met.
Nattie Neidhart: Charismatic, smart and affectionate.
Miss Elizabeth: The queen of wrestling.
Harry Smith: Shy.

Dallas
Dynamite Kid: Wondering where he is.
Ted DiBiase: Baller.
Randy Orton: Legend.
Steve Corino: Chain wrestler.
Greg “The Hammer” Valentine: Old School.

Beans
Teddy Hart: Out there, risk taker, and funny.
Macho Man Randy Savage: Voice and tie-dye outfits.
Chris Jericho: Good wrestler.
RVD: Very nice and respectful, and I love his wife.
Kevin Nash: Tall and cute.

Blade
Jimmy Hart: Mouth of The South.
Ric Flair: WOOOOOOO.
Hulk Hogan: The real American.
Trish Stratus: Hottest woman in world.
Rey Mysterio: My amigo. Great wrestler and awesome friend.

July 5th: The No Remorse Corps of Roderick Strong, Rocky Romero & Davey Richards are making a lot of enemies. They will have to answer to those enemies when “Death Before Dishonor V: Night 1” comes to Boston on August 10th. Fans found the Reggie Lewis Track & Recreation Center to be the nicest building ROH has ever run in the Boston area and a great location when ROH presented its first show there on June 8th. Now ROH is bringing an even bigger card to this first class facility on August 10th. Jack Evans will return to Boston as he faces Davey Richards. Another big Boston return will see Austin Aries back to team with Erick Stevens against Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero. Both these matches will bring incredible action to Boston. Sydal plans to spend the summer going back and forth from ROH and Dragon Gate. Negotiations are also taking place with two other major promotions in the United States. Sweeney says that Sydal will end up with whoever has the most to offer. ROH officials are doing everything possible to keep Sydal in ROH. We’ll have more on this story as news develops. Jack Evans Ready For ROH Return
Tuesday, July 03, 2007

The last time we saw Jack Evans in a ROH ring he was unconscious with a major concussion. Now Jack is ready to return and he’s stronger than ever.

Evans’ downfall in ROH started on 4/27 in St. Paul when Rocky Romero delivered a crippling blow to the head. Evans desire to get revenge on Roderick Strong saw him compete against doctors orders the next night in Chicago. Once again Romero kicked him in the head. Then after the match the No Remorse Corps lived up to their name when Strong held a chair against Jack’s head while Romero delivered a potent kick. Evans was out.

After a few weeks off, Evans traveled to Japan to tour extensively with Dragon Gate in an effort to build up his strength, conditioning and game. Evans will rejoin the ROH roster on July 16th in Tokyo and July 17th in Osaka. Evans will then return to the United States to compete in the “Race To The Top” tournament on July 27th in Long Island and July 28th in Edison. Evans has just signed to be a part of “Death Before Dishonor V” weekend on August 10th in Boston and August 11th in Philadelphia.

“I can’t wait until I get back to ROH,” Evans said. “I’m feeling better than ever. There is so much exciting stuff happening with ROH on pay-per-view. Yo, ROH is my home and I need to go back to where I belong. No Remorse Corps, don’t think I forgot about putting my own crew together to get revenge.”

It was during the Fifth Year Festival that Jack Evans declared that he would put his own crew together to combat the No Remorse Corps. Since that time things have been pretty quiet. However, now Evans seems more determined than ever to put together his own faction. He would not give us any hints as to who might join though.

“You can all just wait and see,” Evans said. “I’m going to surprise some people. I’ll see all you ROH fans real soon.”
