Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, returns with a preview of the WWE’s newest “Gimmick” Pay-Per-View. He also makes breaks out his crystal ball, tea leaves and lucky coin to make his predictions for the Father’s Day show.
WWE is trying, yet another, “Specialty Pay-per-View” with Fatal Four Way. This time, four men or women fight for a title. There are a couple of other regular matches in there, as well. I’ll look at the matches, try and figure out the winners and the future of the various people involved.
Predictions: All four of these men have held the WWE title. Orton is going in with a bad arm/shoulder. These kiinds of matches are really difficult to call because there are so many variables. Edge and Orton can have a decent program without the WWE title involved. I think that takes both of them out of the picture. Cena is on a Power Push, right now. He survived the whole Batista thing and now is ready to run through the summer as the leader of the pack. I honestly think Cena is going to slap a Crippler Crossface on Orton and force the tap out.
Predicted Winner: John Cena Predicted Grade: A-
Jack Swagger v Big Show v Rey Mysterio v C.M. Punk World Heavyweight Championship Fatal 4-Way Match
Predictions: This match is going to be brutal. It’s going to be a mix of power, speed and high flying. I expect Kane to come out and attack everyone in sight, especially after the events on Smackdown. Somehow, Swagger is going to continue his “Cinderella Ride” and squeak by this matcch. Big Show is likely going into a program with Kane. Rey and Punk may end up working towards a “Mask v Mask” match at Summerslam or before. Swagger moves on to whoever they throw at him.
Backstory: Drew attacked Matt Hardy. When he refused to stop, Teddy Long stripped Drew of the title and fired him. Teddy set up a mini-tournament to determine the new I-C champ. Kofi beat Christian for the title. Seconds after he won, Drew waltzed out with a note from Vince McMahon, saying that he was not only reinstated but the I-C title was returned to him. Kofi came back and defeated Drew for the I-C title. This is the rematch.
Predictions: I simply don’t like Drew McIntyre. He falls in that same category as: The Model, Alex Wright, Dolph Ziggler and so many others taht have been “force feed” to the fans. Yes, he’s talented but he irritates me. That being said, I think this match is going to thrill the crowd. Drew is starting to slip in his push. I think it’s time for Drew to forget the I-C and go for the World title. Kofi is going to win this one with the S-O-S and be done with this. Kofi will move on. Drew will then come out with an edict from Vince that Drew deserves better than a secondary title and Swagger gets a Face Turn.
Backstory: Miz was riding high as the United States champ, until Bret Hart walked in and took the title (with major help from the Hart Dynasty). A week later, Bret surrendered the U.S. strap to become the General Manager of Raw. He set up a tournament, where R-Truth captured Raw’s level two title. R-Truth was thrown into a Fatal Four Way with Miz, John Morrison and Zack Ryder. Morrison hit Starship Pain on R-Truth. Miz pitched Morrison out of the ring and took the cheap win.
Predictions: Unfortunately, R-Truth has really gotten the short end of the stick since coming back to the WWE. In TNA, he was a multiple time World and tag team champion. In WWE, he’s barely rose above Talent Enhanement level. I think the end will come when Miz ducks the Lie Detector. Miz will then hit the Skull Crushing Finale to retain his title.
Predictions: This will likely be sandwiched between the WWE and World title matches. This match has minimal meaning in the over-arll scheme of things. All four of these women are adequate (or better) in the ring I expect this match to be a bit sloppy. It’s also not going to last more than 5 minutes or so. I going to go out on a limb with this one. I’m thinking Gail Kim will finally get her chance to wear gold, again. I feel Gail will hit her finisher, Meet da Feet. aka Gail Force to take the title
Predicted Winner: Gail Kim (new champ) Predicted Grade: C
Final Grade: B-
This looks to be a rather weak Pay-per-View. It’s basically a re-hash of the various feuds of the last couple months. They will toss in another match or two, most likely, to flesh out the PPV. I would expect the Unified tag belts to go up against: The Uso Brothers, the Dudebusters and Hawkins/Archer. Since I spent my PPV budget on Slammiversary, I think I’ll pass on this second-level Pay-per-view.
