Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Triple H at WrestleMania 30 would be a waste of both legendary names.
A few weeks ago, rumors and reports from the Wrestling Observer claimed one creative idea pitched was if Austin was medically cleared, to have him represent Vince McMahon and take on Triple H in a match for full control of the company.
The battle for control of the company doesn’t surprise me. I wrote about how I think it will happen back in May. It should not be with Austin versus Triple H.
The only pro to this concept is they never fought at WrestleMania.
There is no other reason to have this match. The two guys together would draw but so would a lot of others with Austin. If you got one wish from the magical lamp that produces an Austin return match?Triple H is the wrong wish.
There are some other intriguing opponents for a one-night return like The Undertaker, John Cena, Dean Ambrose or Brock Lesnar. But, even in their intrigue, the correct wish is CM Punk.
So much initiative and work has been done already via a sit-down interview, words exchanged on Twitter and Internet buzz to build to a payoff between Austin and Punk. A battle of the beer-drinking redneck who will say anything versus the hard-working, straight-edge wrestling great who will say anything.
The first con in having Austin versus Triple H is that it’s not the best matchup that we could have done for Austin’s big return after a decade. Another reason I’m against it is because we’ve seen the match many times.
The ideas I proposed, yes, we’ve seen Austin versus The Undertaker, but facing him now given the legacy the streak he has developed at WrestleMania would provided a fresh perspective.
We’ve never seen Austin up against today’s poster boy, John Cena.
