October 14, 2006 - SOUTHERN JUSTICE - Bushnell, Florida

That's right I'm back with another FIP DVD review after a brief hiatus (although if you're reading this in archives it will feel like no time at all!). FIP has been gaining a lot of steam as they have successfully developed a full crew of unique personalities and also put a lot of faith in the feud between the Heartbreak Express and Black Market. The Briscoe Brothers have now come in to add some "southern justice" to the tag team division. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson has a big list of potential challengers for his FIP championship. It's a great time to be a fan of FIP.

The Canadian Cougar defeated Jaison Moore in a preliminary match which was a carbon copy of all Cougar matches ( 4 / 10 ).

The YRR combination of "Modern Miracle" Steve Madison and Chasyn "Not Cocky" Rance took on the team of Erick Stevens and Salvatore Rinauro in a bout which began with a lot of heel stalling tactics and babyface comedy antics. These are four really good young workers who know their roll in FIP and play their part to perfection. The shocking conclusion to this match involved Salvatore Rinauro turning heel on Erick Stevens and joining YRR. The three YRR guys destroyed Stevens with a spike pile-driver and pinned him to the match ( 7 / 10 ). The YRR triple-teamed Erick Stevens after the match until Seth Delay made the save.

DP Associates, headed by Dave Prazak, came out to the stage and laughed at Seth Delay for staying the ring. Delay challenged Cyber Kong to a match and Prazak proclaimed that Delay just signed his own death warrant.

Cyber Kong is hilarious to look at but he's not too shabby in the ring combining his obvious power with unique agility for a man his size. Seth Delay was making a good showing for himself with Cyber Kong got disqualified for smashing his gimmick pineapple over Delay's head ( 5 / 10 ). A furious Dave Prazak came out and couldn't believe that his men were "caught" using the pineapple and seemed to blame everything on Mr. Milo Beasley (his homeless wheelchair-bound vice president of DP Associates).

Dave Prazak issued an open challenge to anyone in the back to come out and face Shingo Takagi, and the challenge was answered by Florida independent high-flier "Mr. 360" Jerrelle Clarke. Shingo is the kind of opponent that can bring the best out of Jerrelle Clarke. It turned out to be a really great match which got particularly heated during the final moments when the enormous Cyber Kong blatantly interfered and helped Shingo secure a tainted victory ( 8 / 10 ).

The FIP Tag Team Champions, the Heartbreak Express, came out and expressed that they were not happy campers tonight. "Super Star" Sean Davis complained that Black Market kidnapped So-Cal Val and they don't know where she is now. The Heartbreak Express said they will be routing for Black Market in the following #1 Contenders match so they can "get some damn revenge!"

The feud between Black Market and the Heartbreak Express has been incredibly hot and the addition of the Briscoes to the mix will help to light the tag team division on fire once again. The Briscoes worked extremely well with Black Market considering it's their first time wrestling each other (to my knowledge). The Briscoes won the match to earn a shot at the Heartbreak Express ( 7.5 / 10 ).

The Heartbreak Express always seem to score themselves some kind of advantage over their challengers. In most cases, their opponents have already wrestled at least once by the time they get their hands on the champions - but not in THIS case. The Briscoes used the big wave of momentum to dethrone the Heartbreak Express in about two minutes to capture the FIP Tag Team championships ( 6 / 10 ). The Briscoes celebrated like total babyfaces with the fans while Sean Davis screamed like a sissy in protest.

Erick Stevens was understandably upset after being the victim of the ultimate betrayal at the hands of Salvatore Rinauro earlier. Stevens called out Rinauro for a fight and they brawled around the arena for several minutes until Steve Madison and Chasyn Rance joined in, followed by Seth Delay and Roderick Strong making the save!

It's strange to watch Matt Sydal "try" to work as a heel because he's just a natural babyface (sort of like Ricky Steamboat). That's the position he was faced with when he took on Florida's favorite independent wrestler, Roderick Strong. This was MY kind of match - totally ROH-style combat complete with a trademark high-risk move from Matt Sydal. Roderick Strong won the match with a Boston Crab submission move ( 8.5 / 10 ). They stole the show with the best match of the night.

The main event included a lot of fan interaction with "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson nearly inciting a riot involving a sea of rabid blood-thirsty 10-year olds. Bryan Danielson used a set of brass knuckles on route to successfully defending his FIP championship against the challenge of Davey Richards ( 7.5 / 10 ). God bless American Dragon for taking 25-minutes of constant verbal abuse from a large group of pre-teen adolescents.

Final Thoughts: This was an extremely solid show with a lot of great matches. If you've never seen FIP on DVD this would be the one with which to start your collection. If you know a wrestling fan who doesn't know that wrestling exists outside of the WWE, this would make an excellent birthday or Christmas gift. It was an excellent show; one of the better outings I can remember for the FIP.
