SHIMMER Women Atheletes Volume #2

Taping number two for SHIMMER Women’s Athlete’s featured the same unique atmosphere as the first taping (both recorded on the same night). Team Blondage’s Krissy Vaine opened the show taking on the springy Cindy Rogers in a good opening match. Rogers isn’t anything like how I expected her to be from looking at her photos, but she has some good babyface skills that were put to good use against the whiney heel tactics of Krissy Vain. Next up we had Boston’s Nikki Roxx facing the experienced Lexie Fyfe — I’m a big fan of Roxx and I hope she moves up the card soon. Tiana Ringer teamed up with Cheerleader Melissa to take on Shantelle Taylor and Ariel in a slow paced tag team match. Melissa was the star here and clearly they are setting her up for a bigger push than this. The other half of Team Blondage Amber O’Neal battled the Mississippi Queen Christie Ricci in good match. Ricci is another girl who should move to the card – I’d like to see Ricci vs Roxx OR Ricci/Roxx vs Team Blondage. Allison Danger wrestled Rain in a ‘first time ever’ match and it turned out to be the second best match of the night. Rain is quickly climbing up my personal Top 10 list of favorite Women’s wrestlers. WWE-bound Beth Phoenix faced her fears head on when she climbed into the ring with the bizarre Mischif. MsChif got to show more of her personality, and less of her wrestling skills in this match; As opposed to the other way around when she faced Melissa on Vol 1.

The main event, and best match of the night, featured a four-way between the man-hating Lacey, the Illinois hippie Daizee Haze, the Latina sensation Mercedes Martiez, and California phenom Sara Del Rey. This match centered partially around the developing rivalry between Del Ray and Martinez (who wrestled to a draw on Vol 1). This was the one big reason to buy this DVD. It was a great night of hot SHIMMER action from bell-to-bell and well worth the watch. Long live SHIMMER Women’s Athletes.

Final Thoughts: It is extremely hard not to use the phrases; “She’s hot”, “She’s sexy”, “She’s got a nice butt” etc etc when I am reviewing these DVDs. I am trying my best to focus on the intended product, and that is a group of talented women athletes mastering the art of professional wrestling like nothing ever seen before in North America. It goes without saying that all of these women are physically attractive, but from a wrestling standpoint, they have a lot to be proud of as well. To reiterate what I said in my previous review, someone has to sit these girls down and instruct them on how to perform for the camera, as opposed to the locals in the front row. When your name is being introduced, you should be facing in the direction of the camera, NOT with your back to it. Having your face on the screen helps DVD viewers associate your face with your name. With every new product, there is always room to grow and I am loving every minute of SHIMMER Women’s Athletes and anticipate great things in the future. 6.5/10
