The November TNA Report Card

About the Report Cards

Each month, I issue a report card for TNA. I examine and grade the promotion in all the vital areas. I discuss strengths and weaknesses and chart the ups and downs. The grades in parentheses are for the previous report card. The grades in parentheses represent the previous report card.

OWW Wrestler of the Week: Mae Young

HeadLocker — Jay Shannon

OWW’s Wrestler of the Week — (Johnnie) Mae Young

Our resident philosopher, Jay Shannon, celebrates the WWE Hall of Famer. Mae made history on Monday Night Raw’s 800th Episode Celebration, She became the oldest person to ever actively compete in a wrestling match.

The WWE has three women in their Hall of Fame. Sherri Martel, The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young. They are actually connected in a rather unique way. Moolah was one of the women who trained Martel. Mae was the woman who trained Moolah. Mae, sadly, is the only living female member of the WWE Hall of Fame. She also is the oldest person to ever actively compete inside a wrestling ring. On Monday, November 3, 2008, an 85 year old Mae actually battled the WWE Women’s champion (Beth Phoenix). Mae lost by way of a Schoolgirl Roll-up by Beth. For setting a new record as the oldest active competitor, “The Great” Mae Young earned this week’s OWW Wrestler of the Week award.

The Kingfish Comments: It makes no sense to show the same videos as many as five times during the half-hour show – and then showing them again during the actual pay per view! TNA does some nice vids, but they have no impact by the time fans have seen them repeatedly.

TNA Turning Point PPV Recap 11/9

The theme song for this PPV is Indestructible by Disturbed, and the music video is played throughout the preshow.  The show opens with a video montage of clips from the action leading up to the PPV cut in with comments from the wrestlers involved in the TNA Originals vs. Main Event Mafia feud.

Jeremy Borash is at the entrance, trying to get comments from the Main Event Mafia as they arrive, but Scott Steiner is the only one who will talk to him.  Scott says this war is all about respect, and they are going to end it tonight, because “these young punks, they don’t have what it takes to step in the ring with the Main Event Mafia!”  Then he tells JB to get their bags.
