A new women’s group, Female Fight League, was announced this past week at the Cauliflower Alley Club reunion in Las Vegas. The group is spearheaded by ChickFight founder Jason Deadrich and Melissa Anderson, better known as Alissa Flash or Cheerleader Melissa and Stephane Bruyere, co-founder of Canada’s NCW Femme Fatales. A press release reads: “The FFL is a collaborate organization dedicated to bring respect back to women’s professional wrestling. By providing support and resources to pro wreatling’s top promotions for their respective womens divisions, we vow to bring women’s wrestling to a new plateau. The FFL consists of some of the greatest wrestlers and promoters in wonen’s wrestling, working together to better the future of our industry. This past week, on Tuesday April 20, 2010, former All Star Wrestling Trans Canada champion VANCE NEVADA was given the James C. Melby Historian Award by the Cauliflower Alley Club at a ceremony in Las Vegas for his efforts to preserve wrestling history during his career. Also receiving awards as part of the two day ceremony included WWE Hall of Famers Ted DiBiase, Jim Ross, and UFC legend Dan “The Beast” Severn, among others. This is only the third year that the Melby award has been issued, this year marking not only the first active wrestler to win the award, but also the first Canadian recipient. Negotiations with Bill Goldberg have stalled. He did an interview this week where he was quoted as saying, “I’m going to stand my ground and a deal will be done if it’s to my liking and to my liking only.” Goldberg was among nine inductees into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday in Commack, NY. “I wanted to try my best to give the Jewish youth something to look up to, someone who’s persevered and somehow made a difference,” Goldberg said during his induction speech. “What better way to help Jewish youth in dealing with adversity than to parade around the ring on national television in my underwear, demolishing every single person in my path?” [reported by Mike Aldren]
