Jay Ambler wrote: Alfonso began as far back as 1979 with Eddie Graham’s Championship Wrestling from Florida (CWF). This would lead to other roles as a referee for the WWF/WWE, WCW, ECW and Jim Crockett’s NWA promotion. However it was Graham’s CWF promotion that featured Alfonso on their weekly television program with commentators Gordon Solie and Buddy Colt. Solie would often refer to Alfonso as ‘the man that calls it down the middle-Bill Alfonso’.
Interesting trivia: Alfonso is the step-brother of retired wrestler Bob Roop and David Sierra’s (Cuban Assassin) first cousin. Pro Wrestling Illustrated awarded Alfonso with their Manager of the Year award in 1997.
