Memphis Wrestling:

  • 1978: Wayne Ferris was a typical jobber-to-the-stars before Handsome Jimmy took him under his wing.
  • 1979: Wayne Ferris teamed with Larry Latham as the Blonde Bombers in Florida and Memphis.
  • ~~~Back in Memphis, the Blonde Bombers added Sgt. Danny Davis as their manager.

Stampede Wrestling:

  • Wayne Ferris was given the name “Honky Tonk Wayne” by Bruce Hart while working in Calgary.
  • June 20, 1986: Honky Tonk Wayne defeated Bad News Allen to win the Stampede North American Heavyweight Title.

World Wrestling Federation:

  • 1987: Honky Tonk Man signed with the WWF and had a brief stint as a face (good guy).
  • The WWF started a write-in campaign called “A Vote of Confidence” for the fans to vote yes or no.
  • ~~~They were essentially asking the fans if Honky Tonk should be a face or heel, and the response was clear.

World Wrestling Federation:

  • Honky Tonk Man began appearing on TV through a series of vignettes as a bitter heel Elvis impersonator.
  • Honky Tonk Man redebuted with Jimmy Hart as his manager, and sang his own entrance music “I’m a Honky Tonk Man”.
  • September 28, 1986 – Wrestling Challenge: The Honky Tonk Man defeated Terry Gibbs.
  • October 4, 1986 – Superstars: The Honky Tonk Man defeated Ron Shaw.

  • ~~~Ted DiBiase introduced a mystery partner, who was The Undertaker (debut) with Brother Love as his manager.

  • October 23, 1994 – Halloween Havoc: WCW Television champion Johnny B. Badd vs. The Honky Tonk Man ended in a draw to retain the title.
  • November 12, 1994 – Worldwide: The Honky Tonk Man defeated Scott Studd.
  • November 16, 1994 – Clash of Champions: Johnny B. Badd defeated Honky Tonk Man by disqualification to retain the WCW Television Title.
  • December 3, 1994 – Saturday Night: The Honky Tonk Man defeated Rob Morgan.

  • 1996 American Wrestling Federation: The Honky Tonk Man w/Angel Baby defeated Mike Marcello.
  • August 18, 1996 – AWF: The Honky Tonk Man defeated Koko B. Ware.
  • Late 1996: The Honky Tonk Man left AWF after only a brief stint and returned to the WWF.

World Wrestling Federation:

  • 1997: The Honky Tonk Man returned to the WWF, in a managerial capacity, promising to unleash his “protege”.
  • The HTM tried to convince “The Real Double J” Jesse James to be his protege, but he refused.
  • The HTM’s protege ended up being a repackaged Billy Gunn, who would be known as “Rockabilly”.
  • March 28, 1997 – NWC: The Honky Tonk Man defeated Virgil by disqualification.
  • April 26, 1997 – ECWA: Cheetah Master defeated Honky Tonk Man by disqualification.
  • May 3, 1997 – PCW: Bart Gunn defeated The Honky Tonk Man to retain the PCW Americas title.
