In The Beginning:

  • Paul Taylor went to Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he majored in economics.
  • Terry Taylor formed a tag team with Andre the Giant early in his career.
  • Terry Taylor was a popular fan favorite for much of his early career in the Mid-South region, as well as the Mid-Atlantic in the 1980’s.
  • Terry Taylor was originally selected to be part of The Fabulous Ones tag team with Stan Lane, but that role went to Florida wrestler, Steve Keirn.
  • Terry Taylor then formed a tag team with Bobby Fulton called the Fantastic Ones. After they split up, Fulton teamed with Tommy Rogers to form The Fantastics.

National Wrestling Alliance:

  • Terry Taylor made his way to Mid-South in January 1984 and feuded with the team of Nikolai Volkoff and Krusher Darsow. Darsow changed his name to Krusher Khruschev, and he and Taylor met in the finals of a May tournament to crown the first ever Mid-South TV champion, which Khruschev won.
  • 45 days later, Terry Taylor defeated Khruschev in New Orleans to begin his first of four TV title reigns.
  • Terry Taylor feuded with “Nature Boy” Buddy Landel over the NWA National Heavyweight Championship in 1985.
  • On March 13 of that year, Terry Taylor defeated Ted DiBiase for the North American Heavyweight Championship, the Mid South region’s top title at the time.
  • November 28, 1985 – Starrcade: Buddy Landell defeated Terry Taylor to win the National heavyweight title.
  • April 19, 1986 – Crockett Cup: Terry Taylor teamed with Steve “Dr. Death” Williams for the Tag Team tournament.

Universal Wrestling Federation:

  • Moving back to the Mid-South region in 1986 (which had since broken away from the NWA and been renamed the Universal Wrestling Federation {UWF), Terry Taylor became one of the promotion’s biggest stars and defeated Buzz Sawyer for the UWF Television Championship in May.
  • May 3, 1986 – UWF: Jack Victory defeated Terry Taylor.
  • June 7, 1986 – UWF: Terry Taylor defeated Buzz Sawyer to win the TV title.
  • June 13, 1986 – UWF: UWF heavyweight champion Terry Gordy defeated Terry Taylor to retain the title.
  • June 14, 1986 – UWF: UWF TV champion Terry Taylor defeated Buzz Sawyer to retain the title.
  • November 27, 1986 – UWF: Terry Taylor defeated Buddy Roberts in a barbed wired match.
  • Terry Taylor won the UWF Tag Team Championship with “Gentleman” Chris Adams in early 1987, before breaking up their “Dream Team” to begin a heated rivalry.
  • April 11, 1987 – UWF: UWF tag team champions Terry Taylor and Eddie Gilbert defeated Sting and Rick Steiner to retain the titles.
  • August 1, 1987 – UWF: Terry Taylor defeated Steve Cox.
  • September 11, 1987 – UWF: Steve Williams and Sting defeated Terry Taylor and Eddie Gilbert in a steel cage match.
  • September 23, 1987 – MACW: Terry Taylor and Eddie Gilbert defeated Sting and Shane Douglas.
  • September 24, 1987 – MACW: UWF TV champion Terry Taylor defeated Shane Douglas to retain the title.
  • September 25, 1987 – MACW: UWF TV champion Terry Taylor defeated Brad Armstrong to retain the title.
  • After Jim Crockett Promotions took over the UWF later that year, Terry Taylor (then the UWF Television Champion) initiated a dispute with Nikita Koloff over the NWA World Television Championship by stealing Koloff’s belt, which led to a unification match of the two titles at Starrcade 1987, which Taylor would lose before abruptly leaving the promotion.

World Class Championship Wrestling:

  • November 26, 1987 – NWA Starrcade: NWA world TV champion Nikolai Volkoff defeated Terry Taylor to retain the TV title and to win the UWF TV title to unify the titles.
  • In early 1988, Terry Taylor debuted in World Class Championship Wrestling, where he and Adams continued their feud until early June. Taylor won the Texas Heavyweight Championship from Matt Borne and defended it against Adams, Kevin Von Erich, and others.
  • Terry Taylor also held the tag team title with Iceman King Parsons for a short time. Taylor eventually departed WCCW when his feud with Von Erich was about to kick into high gear.
  • March 6, 1988 – WCWA: Terry Taylor defeated Jeff Raitz to retain the Texas heavyweight title.
  • May 8, 1988 – Parade of Champions: Terry Taylor defeated Chris Adams to retain the Texas heavyweight title.

World Wrestling Federation:

  • 1988: Terry Taylor entered the World Wrestling Federation using the name “Scary” Terry Taylor.
  • Terry Taylor was originally considered for the Mr. Perfect gimmick, but it was given to Curt Hennig.
  • July 30, 1988 – Superstars: Los Conquistadors defeated Terry Taylor and Sam Houston in a dark match.
  • July 31, 1988 – WrestleFest 1988: Curt Hennig defeated Terry Taylor in a match that preceeded their “gimmicks”.
  • WWF Superstars of Wrestling: Terry Taylor took Bobby Heenan as him manager and defeated “Leaping” Lanny Poffo.
  • ~~~Bobby “The Brain” Heenan then announced that Terry Taylor would be known as the Red Rooster.
  • August 6, 1988 – Superstars: Terry Taylor defeated Chris Todd.
  • August 14, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Terry Taylor defeated Scott Casey.
  • September 10, 1988 – Superstars: Terry Taylor defeated David Isley in a dark match.
  • October 2, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: The Red Rooster defeated The Junkyard Dog by count-out in a dark match.
  • October 15, 1988 – Superstars: The Red Rooster defeated Lanny Poffo.
  • October 16, 1988 – King of the Ring: The Red Rooster defeated Marty Jannetty in the 1st round. The Red Rooster defeated Iron Mike Sharpe in the quarter-finals. Randy Savage defeated The Red Rooster in the semi-finals.
  • October 29, 1988 – Superstars: The Red Rooster defeated Reno Riggins.
  • October 30, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: The Red Rooster defeated Tommy Angel.
  • November 19, 1988 – Superstars: The Red Rooster defeated Rusty Riddle.

  • November 27, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: The Red Rooster defeated Joe Cruz.
  • December 4, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: The Red Rooster defeated Sam Houston.
  • December 4, 1989 – House Show: The Red Rooster defeated George Skaaland.
  • December 10, 1989 – Superstars: The Red Rooster defeated Scott Casey.
  • December 31, 1988 – House Show: The Red Rooster defeated The Blue Blazer.
  • January 7, 1989 – Saturday Night Main Event: Tito Santana defeated Red Rooster w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.
  • ~~~After the match, Bobby Heenan jumped into the ring to yell at the Rooster and then slap him for losing the match!
  • ~~~The Rooster got fed up and then slapped Heenan back and then threw him around the ring and then tossed him out.
  • A week later on Prime Time Wrestling Heenan offered to make up with the Rooster. Heenan shook his hand and then slapped him.
  • ~~~Suddenly, jobber Steve Lombardi showed up and knocked out Gorilla Monsoon and brawled with the Red Rooster.
  • Terry Taylor feuded with Bobby Heenan’s new protege, The Brooklyn Brawler.
    January 15, 1989 – Royal Rumble: The Red Rooster entered at number 25 and eliminated by Ted DiBiase.

  • Terry Taylor returned to the National Wrestling Alliance and was met with chants of “Rooster! Rooster!”
  • Terry Taylor wrestled low card matches with names such as J.W Storm, the Iron Sheik and Johnny K9.
  • Terry Taylor often challenged Arn Anderson for the WCW Television title occasionally ending in a time limit draw.
  • September 5, 1990 – NWA Clash: The Nasty Boys defeated Jackie Fulton and Terry Taylor.
  • October 27, 1990 – NWA Halloween Havoc: Terry Taylor defeated Bill Irwin.
  • December 16, 1990 – NWA Starrcade: Michael Wallstreet defeated Terry Taylor.
  • 1991: Terry Taylor (Terrance) filled the void left by Michael Wallstreet in the York Foundation faction, managed by Alexandra York.

World Championship Wrestling – Upper Management:

  • 1996: Terry Taylor was again hired by WCW as a writer and booker for WCW Monday Nitro.
  • Terry Taylor was the master-mind behind the surge of the WCW Cruiserweight division.
  • Terry Taylor also had a hand in the new World order.
  • Terry Taylor became a vital part of the WCW creative team was an instrumental factor for WCW’s success.
  • Terry Taylor was rarely seen on TV, but his appearances would be in a role of a WCW official.

  • 1999: Terry Taylor suddenly jumps to the WWF due to the backstage politics in WCW.
  • Terry Taylor’s duties in the WWF consisted of being a writer and a commentator.
  • Terry Taylor briefly subbed for Michael Cole on an episode of RAW IS WAR after he was attacked by Jim Ross.
  • Terry Taylor was responsible for the signing of Public Enemy, which didn’t go down well with many people in the WWF.
  • May 15-16, 1999 – House Show: Kurt Angle defeated Terry Taylor.
  • July 30, 1999 – Curtis Comes Home: Chris Jericho defeated Terry Taylor.
  • September 23, 1999 – House Show: Joey Abs defeated Terry Taylor.

  • 2000: Terry Taylor and creative writers Vince Russo, Ed Farerra and Bill Banks jumped to WCW.
  • Terry Taylor resumed his role as a contributing writer for WCW Monday Nitro.
  • Terry Taylor stayed with World Championship Wrestling until it was sold to Vince McMahon.

  • October 10, 2001 – Border City Wrestling: Terry Taylor and Cyrus (Don Callis) captured the BCW Can-Am Tag Team titles.
