Robert Louis Howell wrote: In 1971, Wolfman lost his bid to win the U S title from Pedro Morales on the same card that Ivan Koloff won the WWWF Title from Bruno Sammartino. This match set the stage for Morales tile shot on the next Madison Square Garden card. By all accounts The Wolfman/Morales match was held after the Sammartino /Koloff match and it sort of took the edge off of Brunos loss. The WWWF Title change was not announced until after the last match to decrease crowd reaction i.e. a possible riot. In a sense Wolfman was an important part of WWWF history.
