Random RumblingsRandom Rumblings: Bob’s Opinion on Eric Young’s Title Victory

I’ll be the first to admit, I haven’t watched much of TNA in recent years due to the company failing to produce anything entertaining or interesting over the past four years. I mean, the last time I gave the company a chance was around Bound For Glory 2010, but once the Jeff Hardy debacle happened in early 2011, I just stopped.

The company caught my interest again thanks in large part to the copying of a WWE storyline. Unless you have been living under a rock, a bearded star finally claimed the WWE World Championship at WrestleMania XXX.

TNA has their own bearded wrestler, who for most of his career has been a comedy wrestler, won the TNA World Championship by defeating Magnus the Thursday after Daniel Bryan won the WWE World Championship.

There is no denying that Eric Young has ability. He is a good wrestler and is capable of a good match. However, the way he has been presented for most of his TNA career, makes the decision to put the championship seem odd to me.

I remember a time when EY had a serious role as a leader of a group called World Elite in TNA. Once Hogan and Bischoff came to the company, that was forgotten about and EY returned to his midcard goofy self.

Now, it appears that Young has been in contention for the championship for a couple of weeks and now wins the title? Of all the people on the roster, EY gets the championship. At the same time that a rival company puts the belt on probably the most over babyface, with a huge beard.

That can’t be a coincidence.

I’m aware that EY has a television show on Animal Planet and this is likely done to cross promote the series, which isn’t a bad idea at all. It’s just been rushed way too quickly.

Could EY grow into being a credible champion? Sure. But with the recent struggles TNA has been suffering, do they really have the time to let that happen?

It will be interesting to see if Young’s reign lasts past this Sunday’s pay per view, where he defends against Magnus. I had no idea they even had a pay per view coming up this Sunday until I stumbled upon it on the internet.

The timing of the title win makes it laughable because of Daniel Bryan. Young is a hard worker and when given a serious role, he is able to do very well for himself.

However, the booking of the title win by TNA, was not done very well, at all
