David Dexter reports that the top markets competing to host WrestleMania 31 are San Francisco (actually Santa Clara, CA) and Philadelphia, according to an article in The Mercury News in California.
The article noted that Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews and representatives from the San Francisco 49ers are flying to WWE HQ next week for a meeting to attempt to finalize bringing Wrestlemania to the Bay Area for the first time.
If they are successful, Wrestlemania 31 would be held at Levi’s Stadium, which is currently under construction in Santa Clara, CA for the 2014 NFL season.
If Philadelphia wins the bid, it will be the second time Wrestlemania is held in the City of Brotherly Love after Wrestlemania 15 (Steve Austin vs. The Rock I main event) in 1999. The idea would be to hold the PPV outdoors at Lincoln Financial Field, which houses the Philadelphia Eagles.
