IN THE RING
Matt Striker + NXT Rookies: Matt introduced the NXT rookies to the ring, Darren Young, Michael Tarver, Skip Sheffield, David Otunga, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, Wade Barrett, and Daniel Bryan. Matt said the pressure was starting to get to them as the competition intensified. Matt asked Tarver if the pressure was getting to him. Tarver said he is the pressure, and whether he wins or loses, he will not lose… Matt asked Otunga how he thinks he did on RAW. Otunga said he shares the spotlight with the WWE champion, unlike the other rookies. Matt asked Justin how he would have fared against the WWE champion. Justin said to give him a match and find out. Matt explained what the winner of NXT would get, like he does every show. Matt said last week he tested physical ability, but you need to be able to verbalize your feelings and connect with the audience to be a WWE superstar. Matt said you compete globally, so you can’t just connect with the American audience. Matt said tonight they would test the mentality of the superstars. Matt said whoever wins this week will be able to create an entrance theme for themselves. Matt said he had a list of topics on some cue cards. Matt said each rookie would have 30 seconds to speak about their topic, and the fans would judge them on originality and creativity.
Wade Barrett won the promo challenge: Daniel Bryan started. His topic was passion. Daniel talked about his manliness meter, but Matt cut him off and told him to talk about passion. Daniel couldn’t think of anything and yelled he loved England. Wade went next and his topic was blasé. Wade said when you look at a man like Wade there is nothing Blasé. Wade talked about how much better he was then all the other NXT rookies and how there was nothing blasé about him, he did a good job and the fans liked him. Justin’s topic was flowers. Justin introduced himself and got booed for being from South Africa. Justin said he’s not a big fan of flowers but kind of likes the rose. The fans hated him. Heath had to talk about cereal. Heath said there is lots of kinds but can’t eat any because his body won’t take it. Heath asked what kind of topic cereal was. Otunga had to talk about sleep. Otunga said sleep was something he doesn’t get very much of because his mind is always racing. Otunga said he stays ahead of everyone by not sleeping. Otunga said he would sleep when the competition is over. Skip had to talk about rainbows. Skip said howdy and tried to amp up the crowd but didn’t mention rainbows at all. Michael (who wore a bandana around his mouth now like Homicide) had to talk about itchy. Michael didn’t say anything. Darren was last, and had to talk about toothpaste. Darren said British people don’t use toothpaste much, and asked Matt Striker if that was PG. Darren said he really didn’t want to be there. Michael grabbed the mic and said they’ve had one to many Britney Spears or something unintelligible like that. It was a tie between Skip and Wade, so they had to have a talk off. Skip had to speak about bubblegum. Skip tried talking about all the different kinds, but instead started talking about the keg carrying contest and how he should have won. Wade had to talk about wind. Wade talked about the winds of change that are blowing through the WWE because Wade is going to be the first ever English WWE champion. Wade won the challenge.
Darren Young & Straight Edge Society (C.M. Punk & Luke Gallows & Serena): Darren said he was sorry about last week, he thought he was ready but changed his mind once he got in the chair. Punk said Darren had no right to change his mind, and if it wasn’t for Rey he would have been shaved. Luke said he manhandled Darren and threw him into the chair like he was some punk. Punk said it took guts to back down and to be in the straight edge society you need to stand up for what you believe in. Punk asked Luke if he thought he could beat Darren in singles competition. Luke said he did so Punk said if Darren could beat Luke Punk would forgive him for last week, but if Luke beats Darren they will publicly shave his head, tonight!
Christian w/Heath Slater defeated Wade Barrett w/Chris Jericho: Christian hit a drop kick early on followed by a headlock, which was reversed into a belly to back suplex. Wade choked Christian on the ropes and charged him, but Christian pulled the rope down, and then hit a springboard cross body! Back from commercial Christian was running right into a tilt a whirl backbreaker. Christian managed to take over and hit a nice cross body block, but ran into a big boot short after. Christian hit his turnbuckle kick to the face, followed by a middle rope European uppercut. Wade almost hit his forward attitude adjustment, but Heath grabbed Wade’s leg while the ref was distracted so Christian could hit the Killswitch and win!
Unified Tag Team champion & United States champion Mike “The Miz” Mizanin & Daniel Bryan: Miz made fun of Daniel for only being able to say he loved England. Miz said Daniel was like the Susan Boyle of WWE, all the talent, but no star power. Miz said the only reason Daniel is #1 is because of him. Miz told Daniel to drop his ego, and listen to Miz. Miz told Daniel to go out there, win, and be a star!
William Regal w/Skip Sheffield defeated Daniel Bryan w/Mike “The Miz” Mizanin: This match had potential to be a 5 star classic… if it wasn’t ended after two minutes! William won after reversing a guillotine into a T-bone suplex, followed by a knee trembler. After the match Miz knocked William out of the ring, helped up Daniel, and then hit the skull crushing finale!
Darren Young defeated Luke Gallows (w/C.M. Punk & Serena): Luke destroyed Darren in the beginning moments of the match, hitting all kinds of punches and a fall away slam. Out of nowhere Darren rolled up Luke for the 3! After the match Punk raised Darren’s hand and left Luke in the ring.
