Tag Team Main Event Signed For St. Louis
Monday, November 24, 2008

A week ago, in the November 17th Newswire, Nigel McGuinness issued an arrogant, preemptive challenge to his up-coming World Title challenger, Bryan Danielson:

“After I beat that clamdigger in Chicago, the perfect icing on that cake of humility would be for me to do it one more time. Of course, I won’t be giving him anymore title shots after Chicago, so I should think a tag team match is in the proper order. And with all of the anger that Dragon has built up towards Claudio Castagnoli up to now, I couldn’t think of a better partner. Now all Dragon has to do is commit himself to another beating, and choose a partner of his own, that is if he has the stones to do either.”

Well unfortunately for Danielson, and most likely for the ROH fans, that statement proved somewhat prophetic. McGuinness did defeat his challenger in Chicago with a vicious lariat, and with a small bit of assistance from Castagnoli and a steel chair. At the end of the night, all three men had some poignant comments for their enemies, as you will soon see in the ROH Videowire. Most important out of these, Bryan officially accepted Nigel’s challenge, and his partner of choice, former World Champion Jerry Lynn; the same man whom Nigel will defend his World Title against in Nashville twenty-four hours later!

Lynn has had issues of his own with Nigel since their match at “Vendetta II”. Lynn gave McGuinness a run for his money in a non-title match loss, and Nigel has been anything BUT respectful towards the veteran since that night almost 6 months ago. Jerry also has a little history with Claudio as he holds a victory over Castagnoli from the “Return of the 187” event in October. And the kicker, as was recently announced in the ROH Newswire, Lynn and Danielson will face each other in a Philadelphia dream match on December 26th!

This tag team grudge match could have major repercussions on the show one night later. It would be a tremendous boost of momentum for whichever man gets the pinfall victory in Collinsville; but especially if Jerry or Bryan pin Nigel’s shoulders to the mat. As mentioned before, Nigel’s arrogance continues to grow and grow with each successful title defense, and after beating Danielson, he is soaring in the clouds. This could be the oppositions chance to bring him crashing back to Earth before his next title match.  Tickets for this event are on sale at www.rohwrestling.com.
