For the people of Boston, it was supposed to be a day for a great city-wide party.

Monday was Patriot Day, in Massachusetts, the day each year that The Boston Marathon takes place. The Marathon is a city-wide event that defies description. Far more than the premier running event in the United States…it’s a massive volunteer effort and an event that brings out tens of thousands to watch, support, and party.

On a weekend where the film “42″ premieres. the story of Jackie Robinson’s desegrating baseball during the years after World War II, it seemed appropriate to remember the story again of  what one wrestler did to fight a different kind of racism many years ago in the American South.

Well, here it is. Wrestlemania Sunday.
Complain as much as you might about WWE, smart mark and fanboy (and girl) alike, you’ll be watching it. No matter what you say, you’ll be watching it; whether at your house, at a friend’s house, at a local watering hole, or via um…. “other methods”.
Since everyone else is…here are some semi-educated (or uneducated) predictions on tonight’s show:

But as has happened all too often in recent years, another death occurred this past week within wrestling

Ric Flair‘s son Reid Fliehr died March 29, just after his most recent tour of All Japan had ended.  There have been reports, including from Charlotte area media, that his death was the result of an overdose.

Flair was scheduled to join his father on a tour for the New England based Top Rope Wrestling in New England this weekend. He had been with Ric Flair at a Residence Inn in Charlotte, NC when his father found him non-responsive, called police, who (along with paramedics) pronounced him dead at the scene.

This week is a re-telling of wrestling memories in various venues I’ve attended live. The reason they’ve provided me memories occurs because of many different reasons, as you’ll see.

ECW Arena

From May 1993 to 1995, I sat in the front row of section C (the on-camera section with John “Hat Guy/Hawaiian Shirt” Bailey and company) the first two years at the ECW Arena, before the Club ECW plan was devised. Since I’d been burned by former Tri-State Wrestling Alliance promoter Joel Goodhart for a similar plan, I refused to put out the money for the “4-packs”. It turns out that wasn’t such a bad idea, as the seats I’d regularly sat in with my brother, were the very seats that were involved in the 1995 Terry Funk-Cactus Jack “fire incident”.

Everyone knows the first weekend in April is Wrestlemania weekend, and about all the events associated with it. But at least some of you don’t know about the mega-convention/wrestling orgy called WrestleCon, planned for Friday, April 5- Sunday, April 7…just prior to WrestleMania.

It’s been said the best defense is a good offense. Nowhere was this proven truer than in Stamford, CT this past week.

Vince McMahon had a bigtime disaster on his hands. He’d just give a semi-main event match to Jack Swagger as the result of his win at Elimination Chamber. He’s set to face Alberto Del Rio for the WWE “World” Championship at Wrestlemania 29 in New Jersey in April.

Well, since last week’s show commenting on the National Pro Wrestling Day doubleheader, I’ve:

1)   Had a former employee of both promotions send me nasty e-mails claiming I was somehow picking on CHIKARA (despite the fact that 90% of the column plugged the shows), by pointing out correctly that they were excluding CZW, the longest running independent in the Philadelphia area
