How do you spell “Stop the panic in Stamford”?

C-E-N-A.

After the disastrous Battleground PPV, the ratings for Monday Night RAW were the third lowest of the year. Expectations for the Battleground buyrate can’t be very good. Recent buyrates have been down overall.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Really?

An inane storyline of a “power couple” (second or third time now this one’s been done) that has gone on for what seems forever…babyfaces made to look like clowns…a build to a PPV with the main event the filling of the vacant title, then a five minute power failure with the venue’s video wall flashing green, the WWE set going dark (but lights in the venue staying on) and the InDemand feed going off for five minutes….power is restored…then finally an awkward beginning to the main event.

OK, so the power came back on. Still plenty of time for the match. Match begins slowly, as if Orton and Bryan knew…look, this is a no-finish ending…don’t give it everything tonight.

It was over eight years ago, on August 18, 2005, that CZW wrestler Christopher “Chri$ Ca$h” Bauman Jr. was killed as the result of a motorcycle accident near his home. Bauman had been riding a motorcycle on Ellis Street in Glassboro, NJ when a Ford Taurus turned in front of it from Higgins Drive. The motorcycle then struck the car on the driver’s side of the vehicle, driven by Daisy Gwin of Glassboro, NJ.

In a follow-up to last week’s story, now labor unions are getting into the act. The Culinary Union, who has spearheaded the efforts to keep UFC and MMA shows from taking place in the state of New York, owing to a fight with the non-union casino owned by the Fertittas in Nevada, were now at the last minute (much like the attempt to keep “children” out of Saturday’s fight card) trying to get the main event of the August 17th event pulled by attempting to keep Chael Sonnen from fighting Mauricio Rua this coming weekend at the TD Garden in Boston, MA.

I’m on vacation this week, and will return just before July 4th weekend. So as I do around each July 4th weekend…I remember the passing of former WWF referee Joey Marella who died as the result of an automobile accident on the New Jersey Turnpike, while traveling to Newark, NJ from a WWF show in Ocean City, MD.

As most of you know, PWBTS.com, the flagship site of this column, focuses on coverage and promotion of independent wrestling. As someone who happily shills independent wrestling promotions whenever possible, one of the things that pisses me off is the way independent promotions seems to have no sense about the basic sorts of things that they need to do to promote their product.

Well, $100 million later. Two election campaigns. After all that, Linda McMahon is still not the United States Senator from Connecticut.

Republican nominee Linda McMahon was beaten handily by Democrat Chris Murphy in this past Tuesday Connecticut Senate election, which helped the Democratic Party maintain its majority in the US Senate, as President Barack Obama was reelected in one of the most expensive, dirty, vicious elections in United States history.

I hope all of you reading this in the Northeast are doing well after the frightening experience known as Hurricane Sandy.

Other than what appears to be a small leak in the basement, a bunch of branches down in the yard and a brief power outage, my house and family came out fine. Hundreds of thousands are far from fine….losing much, if not all that they own. The destruction up and down the Jersey Shore and New York has become an endless lunatic newsreel on television, interrupted only by political ads.

So, it’s election season. Linda McMahon’s running for the Senate again. What does that mean for WWE? It usually means your favorite wrestling shows gets sanitized. Fans are used to this by now. Of course (insert eyes rolling sarcastically) WWE has NOTHING to do with the Linda McMahon Senate campaign. The fact that they tone down their product each time she runs for office is a TOTAL coincidence.
